WHO WE ARE

ActBlue is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating cutting-edge technology that fuels Democratic victories and enables progressive causes to thrive.

Our vision is simple: building change through the power of people. Since our founding, we’ve been building innovative solutions to revolutionize grassroots fundraising – if you’ve donated to a Democratic campaign or a progressive organization online, you’ve probably used our platform! We believe in putting power in the hands of small-dollar donors by helping thousands of groups — from local candidates to national movements — mobilize their communities and create a lasting impact. Every member of our team is deeply committed to advancing our shared mission and core values. Together, we are shaping the future of democracy.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

As the Director of Growth at ActBlue, you will drive revenue growth by leveraging strong sales expertise and partnering with cross-functional teams to increase market share. Reporting to the Chief Client Officer, you will support strategic initiatives to expand ActBlue's reach and impact by bringing new customers onto the platform. This role offers the unique opportunity to define, build, and lead ActBlue’s first dedicated sales team. Your leadership will focus on developing and overseeing effective sales strategies across key market verticals in the Democratic politics and progressive nonprofit ecosystem, fostering collaboration among account management, training, community engagement, and marketing teams to drive new client acquisition while aligning department efforts with ActBlue's revenue objectives.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Define, develop, and execute new strategic business opportunities that align with ActBlue’s short and long-term goals, collaborating closely with the Chief Client Officer.
  • Build ActBlue’s inaugural Growth team, mentoring and supporting team members and colleagues, creating a space for individuals to be engaged and valued while driving results and revenue growth.
  • Establish OKRs and manage team performance to align with sales goals.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure efficient and effective sales processes that support ActBlue’s go-to-market objectives.
  • Act as a key strategic advisor to senior leadership on growth tactics, opportunities for expansion, and potential market engagement strategies.
  • Define, measure, analyze, and report on growth metrics to optimize strategies and ensure continuous alignment with organizational goals.
  • Drive revenue growth through customer acquisition and expansion strategies
  • Cultivate relationships with strategic partners to drive revenue and build long-term partnerships.
  • Monitor industry trends and market shifts to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Oversee the sales funnel from lead generation and prospecting to deal closure, ensuring a strong pipeline of opportunities and smooth relationship transition to the Account Management team.
  • Ensure that all sales strategies and operations contribute to meeting departmental goals while maintaining alignment with ActBlue’s mission and values.
  • May support supplementary projects as assigned, ensuring timely and efficient completion in line with organizational objectives and standards.
  •

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • 10-12+ years or equivalent of professional experience leading a sales function within a high-growth organization, preferably in the technology sector.
  • Strong preference for candidates with extensive knowledge, experience, or connections in the Progressive nonprofit sector and/or Democratic politics.
  • Proven success in cross-functional leadership, including a track record of working effectively with product, marketing, and customer service teams.
  • Strong operational mindset, with the ability to streamline processes, implement scalable systems, and drive strategic initiatives.
  • Skilled in data-driven decision-making, including tracking sales KPIs and overseeing the entire sales process in a CRM, ideally HubSpot.
  • A collaborative leadership style that fosters teamwork, empowers others, and drives collective success.
  • A passion for ActBlue’s mission and a strong commitment to supporting Democratic wins and the progressive movement through innovative growth strategies.

And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
