Hybrid - This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their work location three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business]. This position has the flexibility to be in Warren, MI, Mountain View, CA, or Austin, TX.
The Role
As a Disruptive Products & Solutions Architect - Robotics & Automation Innovation , you will lead the creation and adoption of next-generation automation and robotics technologies. This role blends deep technical expertise with strategic foresight to identify, evaluate, and deliver innovative solutions that redefine operational capabilities. You will guide the full lifecycle of disruptive products-from ideation and conceptual design to pilot deployment and enterprise-scale rollout-while ensuring alignment with business goals and customer needs. You'll collaborate across engineering, product, and business teams to drive innovation, mitigate risk, and deliver high-impact solutions.
What You'll Do
  • Lead ideation and conceptual design of disruptive automation and robotics solutions to address complex operational challenges.
  • Evaluate internal and external product proposals for feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and production readiness.
  • Develop structured plans to transition innovations from concept through pilot and into scaled deployment.
  • Create detailed technical documentation including architectural diagrams, models, and specifications.
  • Conduct performance analysis, debugging, and optimization of new systems and technologies.
  • Provide technical leadership across the product lifecycle, influencing design decisions and ensuring architectural integrity.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., WHS, Planning, Procurement, Finance, HR) to ensure successful execution.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, challenging assumptions and guiding engineering teams and suppliers.
  • Build and present business proposals to secure funding and leadership alignment.
  • Advocate for internal process innovation and own roadmap development for your area of responsibility.
  • Ensure alignment of projects with business strategy and prioritize customer satisfaction throughout delivery.

Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Proven experience designing and deploying disruptive automation or robotics solutions, including mobile robotics (AMR, AGV), robotic arms, or autonomous systems.
  • Strong background in embedded systems, real-time control, and sensor integration (LiDAR, vision, IMUs).
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, and ROS/ROS2 for prototyping and system integration.
  • Experience with simulation and modeling tools (e.g., Gazebo, MATLAB/Simulink, SolidWorks) for concept validation.
  • Deep understanding of systems engineering principles, design patterns, and performance optimization techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead architectural reviews, define system interfaces, and manage cross-functional integration.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business-aligned strategies.
  • Experience managing ambiguity, balancing competing constraints, and driving innovation from concept to execution.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field or equivalent experience.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Experience leading R&D or innovation programs in automation, robotics, or advanced manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF) and innovation lifecycle methodologies (e.g., TRL, stage-gate).
  • Hands-on experience with AI/ML applications in robotics, including perception, path planning, or predictive maintenance.
  • Background in building business cases and securing executive sponsorship for disruptive technology initiatives.
  • Experience working with external research institutions, startups, or venture partners to co-develop emerging technologies.

Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position, as well as geography of the selected candidate.
  • The salary range for this role is $130,800 - $232,000 . The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
