Life at UiPath

The people at UiPath believe in the transformative power of automation to change how the world works. We’re committed to creating category-leading enterprise software that unleashes that power.

To make that happen, we need people who are curious, self-propelled, generous, and genuine. People who love being part of a fast-moving, fast-thinking growth company. And people who care—about each other, about UiPath, and about our larger purpose.

Could that be you?

As a Distinguished AI Engineer, you will lead initiatives at the intersection of cutting-edge research and product innovation, pushing the boundaries of machine learning applications in real-world scenarios. You will be a key figure in advancing our machine learning models, optimizing them for performance and scalability, and driving their deployment into production environments. We seek someone who is not only passionate about machine learning theory but also skilled in translating that theory into scalable, efficient, and reliable solutions that address complex problems at scale.

You will be responsible for driving the vision of machine learning advancements, shaping the technical roadmap, and mentoring a talented team of scientists and engineers. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of conducting and applying research with substantial practical impact and is adept at guiding teams to execute on large-scale machine learning projects.

#LI-MH1

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and innovate in the development and deployment of state-of-the-art machine learning models to solve complex and large-scale problems.

  • Design, execute, and oversee large-scale experiments, demonstrating strong experimental intuition and deep technical expertise.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including research scientists and engineers, to scale model training and ensure smooth integration of new models into production environments.

  • Stay ahead of the latest research in machine learning and AI, and strategically incorporate cutting-edge advancements into product solutions.

  • Ensure that machine learning solutions are accessible and user-friendly, contributing to the design of human-computer interfaces for model interaction.

  • Conduct performance benchmarks, statistical analyses, and evaluate the impact of research-based optimizations on real-world problems.

  • Mentor and guide other applied scientists, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.

  • Communicate complex technical concepts and findings effectively across the organization, influencing both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in applied machine learning, with a proven ability to translate academic research into real-world applications.

  • Expertise in developing models using modern ML libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX.

  • Proficient in multiple programming languages, with a preference for Python and at least one other language (e.g., Rust, C++).

  • Deep understanding of machine learning architectures (including Transformers and other modern models) and experience scaling them to production-level systems.

  • Strong foundation in linear algebra, probability, statistics, and algorithms.

  • Knowledge of GNU/Linux systems, with experience in optimizing large-scale distributed systems for machine learning workloads.

  • Strong publication record in top-tier conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR) is a plus.

  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire and mentor a team of researchers and engineers.

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across diverse teams and influence decision-making at the highest levels.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with large multi-modal models and their practical applications.

  • In-depth knowledge of scalable infrastructure for machine learning, including GPU clusters and cloud-based ML solutions.

  • Experience designing interfaces that make machine learning more accessible and intuitive for end-users.

Maybe you don’t tick all the boxes above—but still think you’d be great for the job? Go ahead, apply anyway. Please. Because we know that experience comes in all shapes and sizes—and passion can’t be learned.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
