What You’ll Do

The Editorial Talent & Recruiting Lead at FanSided is responsible for identifying, engaging, and recruiting sports and entertainment writers and content creators across our network. This role sits at the intersection of editorial strategy and recruiting operations, acting as both a talent scout and a brand ambassador for FanSided’s content standards, culture, and mission.

The FanSided Network is made up of a combination of full-time and contracted (1099) writers and contributors. This role will be focused specifically on recruiting independent contractor roles, providing those candidates with clarity on how those roles work, the performance-based structure, and the upside of making FanSided a part of their journey.

Talent Sourcing & Recruiting

  • Recruit site experts, contributors, and multiplatform content creators for FanSided’s network of more than 300 communities and its flagship site, FanSided.com.
  • Proactively source talent through sports and entertainment media communities, social platforms, personal networks, LinkedIn, message boards, Reddit communities, and competitor sites.
  • Use strong knowledge of sports, entertainment, and fandom culture to identify creators who can fill priority areas for growth.

Evaluation & Editorial Partnership

  • Evaluate candidates not only for writing ability, but also for subject-matter expertise, SEO knowledge, voice, audience awareness, and community engagement.
  • Partner with editorial teams to understand site needs, coverage gaps, and evolving priorities and standards across verticals.

Candidate Experience & Onboarding

  • Manage a high-volume recruiting pipeline while maintaining a strong, personal, and professional candidate experience.
  • Educate candidates on FanSided’s platform, editorial standards, and opportunities for growth within the network.
  • Provide responsive, high-quality support to creators throughout their recruiting and onboarding experience.

Process, Tools & Improvement

  • Create, maintain, and manage role openings and recruiting pipeline within Comeet, FanSided’s applicant tracking system (ATS).
  • Track candidate progress and recruiting activity with strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Help refine recruiting guidelines, sourcing strategies, and onboarding processes to support scale and efficiency.
  • Create and curate recruiting and sourcing materials for social media and creator outreach, including messaging, graphics, and written materials.

The expected salary range for this position is between $70,000 and $90,000 annually. Actual pay will be determined based on skills, experience, and location. The benefits available for this position include flexible vacation policy, 15 paid holidays, paid parental leave, health insurance, 401(k) with company match.

Requirements

What You Have

  • 5 to 7 years of recruiting experience, preferably recruiting writers, contributors, or digital content creators in a fast-paced environment. Experience and knowledge in navigating with Independent Contractors is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of sports, entertainment, and writers/content creators in online media landscapes (blogs, social media, podcasts, message boards, and digital publications).
  • Ability to assess writing quality, voice, audience fit, and emerging trends in the digital content space.
  • A customer-first, sales-focused mindset with the ability to build trust and rapport quickly with creators.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort engaging with talent in online communities and informal recruiting environments
  • You’re built for persistent outreach, relentlessly aiming for top candidates and closing creators into contractor roles with performance-based compensation.
  • A self-starter with a proactive approach, constantly looking for ways to improve recruiting strategies and develop new initiatives that strengthen FanSided communities.
  • Experience working with an Applicant Tracking System (Comeet or similar) is preferred.
  • Social media savvy (Twitter/X, Facebook, LinkedIn) with an ability to craft outreach messages that resonate with creators.
  • Passion for sports and an understanding of how modern fans consume and engage with content.

About the team

  • Play a key role in shaping the voices behind one of the largest fan-driven sports media networks.
  • Work closely with editorial leaders and creators who are deeply passionate about their teams and communities.
  • Fully remote, flexible work environment.
  • Opportunity to influence the future of fan-driven sports and entertainment coverage.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
