About the Role

We're seeking a passionate and driven Education Engineer to join our team and help build our education program from the ground up. This is a unique opportunity to combine your deep technical expertise with your love for teaching and community engagement, with a strong emphasis on impactful content creation. You'll be instrumental in creating and delivering high-quality educational content to empower our users and the broader observability community.

You Will

  • Primary Focus: Content Creation & Delivery:

    • Develop and produce high-quality, engaging technical content, including video tutorials, in-depth workshops, comprehensive blog posts, and detailed documentation.

    • Become a recognized subject matter expert on Chronosphere and observability best practices through your produced content.

    • Master the art of presenting complex technical concepts clearly and effectively, primarily through digital media.

  • Customer Community Engagement (Primarily Online):

    • Actively participate in online customer communities and forums, fostering a supportive and collaborative learning environment through your content and direct interactions.

    • Gather feedback from the community to directly inform and improve your educational content.

    • Represent Chronosphere through online presence and digital interaction, focusing on building community through content.

  • Curriculum Development:

    • Design and implement comprehensive educational programs tailored to different user personas, with a focus on scalable, digital delivery.

    • Identify knowledge gaps and develop digital strategies to address them.

    • Prototype and iterate on new, primarily digital, educational formats and approaches.

  • Back-End Engineering & Observability:

    • Leverage your back-end engineering skills to understand and explain complex technical concepts within your content.

    • Apply your knowledge of the observability space (bonus!) to create relevant and practical content.

    • Work with the engineering team to ensure the educational content is technically accurate.

  • Build from the ground up:

    • Assist in the creation of a brand new education team.

    • Provide input on the processes and tools the team will use.

    • Help define the team's culture.

  • Fast-Paced, Minimal Structure Environment:

    • Thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with minimal structure.

    • Embrace a "hustler" mentality, taking initiative and driving projects forward.

    • Prioritize shipping MVPs of educational content and iterating based on feedback.

You Have

  • 10+ years of experience in the technology space

  • 3+ years of back-end engineering experience

  • Professional experience in teaching, training, or community education, with an emphasis on digital content creation

  • Customer facing experience

  • A passion for helping others learn and succeed through online education

  • A proactive and self-driven approach to work, with a focus on content production

  • A “hustler" mentality with a focus on rapid prototyping and iteration of digital content

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
