EHS Manager - Seattle, WA, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Pay range: $110,000 - $135,000 / year

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

To lead, manage and support efforts that ensure facilities, equipment, processes and employee behaviors promote injury reduction and protection of the environment.  

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for administering, developing and coordinating programs designed to protect employees and the environment from harmful accidents. Responsibilities also include assuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulations pertaining to employee health and safety. 

  • Duties and Responsibilities. Responsible for day-to-day management of all EHS programs for Pacific Northwest (WA, OR, AK, ID) to ensure compliance and continuously improve EHS performance 

  • Implement and localize EHS policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations

  • Conduct EHS audits/inspections for main laboratory and field locations to identify potential hazards and safety risks, identify root cause(s), implement corrective action(s). Perform additional inspections as needed. 

  • Proactively identify workplace hazards through risk assessments, inspections, audits, root cause analysis, and KPIs.   Develop and implement EHS programs, procedures, training, in coordination with Regional EHS leadership and key stakeholders to drive safety performance and culture.

  • Evaluate safety program effectiveness using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Root Cause Analysis.  Establish tactical and strategic plans, in coordination with key stakeholders, to continuously improve safety culture and performance.

  • Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure regulatory and health care industry quality and certification requirements.

  • Lead and support the activities of the Safety Committees; review and discuss safety needs; provide regulatory updates and related safety and compliance information.

  • Responsible for managing injury and illness investigations, cases from open to closure in collaboration with the West region EHS team and Regional Manager. Conduct incident investigations, perform RCA and develop safety initiatives and preventive measures based on root cause(s) to avoid future incidents and document in Eco-online.

  • Provide guidance and support management and employees on EHS issues and best practices

  • Develop and maintain a Compliance Calendar. Manage all required reporting, permits, ensure accuracy and compliance. 

  • Manage waste programs to ensure proper handling and disposal of waste materials, including medical waste, hazardous waste, recyclables, and trash. 

  • Coordinate with EHS, management, and location personnel as necessary.

  • Schedule and conduct site waste inspections and audits in coordination with EHS, Operations, State representatives, and location personnel.

  • Manage third party waste contracts.

  • Maintain all EHS recordkeeping using proprietary software. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement EHS, Sustainability and cost improvement initiatives

  • Oversee the implementation of emergency response plans and procedures

  • Act as a liaison between the company and regulatory agencies during inspections and audits. Perform thorough investigation of compliance issues, use RCA to identify root cause(s), implement effective corrective actions. Complete all compliance actions timely and prepare associated documentation. 

  • Serves as the Radiation Safety and Chemical Hygiene Officer 

 

 Qualifications

Required Work Experience:  

  • 5+ years’ of work experience in the Environmental, Health and Safety field

  • Experience managing EHS programs in compliance with Department of Labor and Industries such as WISHA, OROSHA, Department of Ecology, 40 CFR, 49 CFR, 29 CFR, etc.

  • Ability to prioritize numerous tasks and deadlines 

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.

  • Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.) and ability to learn new software (Smartsheet, Projects, Visio)

  • Accountable, self-driven, and ability to learn & continuously improve established programs.

  • Organized, attention to detail, dependable, and team player

  • Ability to perform all other EH&S related duties as assigned 

     

Physical and Mental Requirements:  

Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time 

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree (chemical, physical, biological, safety, environmental management, engineering or clinical laboratory science or medical technology). 

Preferred Experience:

  • 7 years of work experience in the Environmental, Health and Safety field preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Professional Licensing: CSP or ASP (Required)
