Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS), Phantom Works is seeking a Comms & Sensor Systems Engineer/Scientist (Level 2 or 3) to join the Phantom Works Special Technology Integration team in Mesa, AZ.
The successful candidate should have a working knowledge of electromagnetic systems, components, and applied physics; have significant knowledge and experience with implementing real-time embedded hardware, firmware, and software; have strong analytical skills and knowledge & proficiency with physical modeling and simulation tools; and knowledge of advanced math & system modeling principles as applied to aerospace and electrophysical analysis.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Interpret highly dynamic or uncertain requirements to develop flexible embedded hardware & software systems within aggressive program schedules & budgets
  • Remain application & product focused while simultaneously executing multiple technical aspects of vertically integrated designs
  • Balance systems/software engineering best practices with cost, schedule, and system performance requirements
  • Apply systems-level thinking and agile design practices to advance embedded system architectures
  • Perform control system logic/algorithm, hardware, and software development tasks
  • Provide end-to-end systems integration, test, and field support
  • Work under experienced electrophysics engineer/scientists, software, and hardware engineers in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Take ownership of tasking from start to finish and demonstrate consistent initiative with ambiguous or unclear assignments
  • Maintain project planning of assigned sub-tasks; decomposing milestones, reporting progress, estimating completion, and communicating help needed

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be
required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
Travel Requirement: Up to 25% of time is possible.
This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Special Program Access or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • Level 2: 2+ years of work-related experience with a Bachelors degree OR work-related experience with a Masters
  • Level 3: 5+ years of work-related experience with a Bachelor degree OR 3+ years of work-related experience with a Masters degree OR 3+ work-related experience and a PhD
  • 2+ years of experience with low-level software programming in C/C++, and/or Rust, etc. and version control workflows (Git, GitLab, SVN, etc.)
  • 2+ years of experience in high-level software development for applied physics, modeling, and/or simulation using MATLAB, Python, Julia, and/or Jupyter, etc.
  • 3+ of experience in real-time embedded systems and low-level driver development with microcontrollers, single board computers, and/or FPGAs

Typical Education/Experience:
Level 2: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range:
Level 2: $79,910 - $108,100
Level 3: $ 97,750 - $132,250
