At E Source, we help utilities make sense of complexity in a rapidly changing landscape, and we’re looking for a Data Analyst Intern to join our Data Analyst team for energy solutions and contribute to work that shapes the energy future.

E Source is a research, data/analytics, and technology-focused professional services firm focused exclusively on the Utility industry in North America. We help utilities target and serve their customers more effectively, enhance and optimize their grid, and leverage operating best practices and technologies to manage their business more effectively. Headquartered in Texas, we have 450+ employees across the US and Canada. Learn more at www.esource.com.

As a Data Analyst Intern, you’ll work alongside our Data Analyst team for energy solutions, helping keep our industry-leading data tools accurate and up to date while supporting research projects that inform how utilities promote energy efficiency, manage demand-side management (DSM) programs, and serve their customers. You’ll get hands-on experience with utility-sector data, learn how E Source turns research into clear, actionable guidance, and build practical analytical skills you can carry into the rest of your career.

This role is ideal for a current undergraduate, graduate student, or recent graduate who is curious about energy, comfortable working with data, and eager to learn in a collaborative, mentorship-oriented environment.

In this role, you will:

  • Update and populate E Source data tools with thorough, accurate information after receiving training.

  • Support research requests from utility clients and internal teams, including contributions to reports, articles, and webinars.

  • Organize, evaluate, and interpret quantitative and qualitative data drawn from primary and secondary sources.

  • Help document analytical procedures and suggest improvements to data workflows.

  • Collaborate with analysts and subject-matter experts to translate findings into clear written and visual summaries.

You’re likely a great fit if you:

  • Are a current undergraduate or graduate student, or a recent graduate, ideally pursuing a degree in an environmental, economic, energy, data, or related field.

  • Are naturally curious about utilities, energy efficiency, sustainability, or the broader energy industry.

  • Bring strong attention to detail and care about getting the data right.

  • Have solid research, critical-thinking, and organizational skills.

  • Communicate clearly in writing and verbally, and can explain what the data shows to a non-technical audience.

  • Work well across teams, ask thoughtful questions, and follow through on commitments.

And even better if you:

  • Have coursework or project experience involving data entry, data manipulation, or basic analysis.

  • Are comfortable with SQL, Python, R, or similar tools for working with data.

  • Have used Excel, Power BI, or Tableau to summarize or visualize data.

  • Have any prior exposure to the utility, energy, or sustainability sectors.

Experience and Skills to Qualify Include:

  • Have coursework or project experience involving data entry, data manipulation, or basic analysis.

  • Are comfortable with SQL, Python, R, or similar tools for working with data.

  • Have used Excel, Power BI, or Tableau to summarize or visualize data.

  • Have any prior exposure to the utility, energy, or sustainability sectors.

At E Source, you’ll work alongside people who are thoughtful, curious, and deeply knowledgeable about utility and energy systems. We value clarity over jargon, substance over flash, and collaboration over ego. You’ll have the opportunity to grow your skills, contribute to meaningful work, and help shape a company that plays a real role in how the energy future unfolds.

This is a temporary, six-month position. You’ll work up to 20 hours per week at a rate of $17.00 USD per hour. Exact dates and hours are flexible based on your schedule.

This role will be 100% remote, with infrequent travel (generally 1-2 times per year).

Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the US or Canada. We’re unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas or Labour Market Impact Assessments (Cdn) at this time.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.

Employees of E Source are encouraged to apply. To foster a positive work environment and company culture, we support our employees in their career growth at E Source. What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
