The Data Center Operations Energy Planner is responsible for forecasting, monitoring, optimizing, and governing energy usage across one or more mission-critical data center facilities. This role serves as the central point of accountability for power capacity planning, energy cost management, utility coordination, and operational energy efficiency initiatives. The Energy Planner partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Finance, Sustainability, and external utility providers to ensure reliable, cost-effective, and compliant energy delivery while supporting business growth and uptime commitments. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop short-term and long-term energy demand forecasts based on IT load growth and expansion plans. 
  • Perform power capacity planning to maintain redundancy requirements. 
  • Analyze energy consumption data using EPMS, BMS, and utility metering. 
  • Track and report KPIs such as PUE, peak demand, and load factor. 
  • Support energy budgeting and cost forecasting. 
  • Coordinate with utility providers on capacity, upgrades, and outages. 
  • Identify and drive energy efficiency initiatives. 
  • Support compliance, sustainability reporting, and risk mitigation. 
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align energy strategy with operations. 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Energy Management, or related field. 
  • 5 + years of experience in energy management or data center operations. 
  • Strong understanding of data center electrical systems. 
  • Experience with EPMS/BMS platforms and energy analytics. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting multi-site or large-scale data center environments. 
  • Knowledge of utility tariffs and demand response programs. 
  • Familiarity with sustainability and renewable energy programs. 
  • CEM or similar professional certification.
