Position Description

Origis Energy seeking a Manager of ESS Technology (or Director) to join our high-performing team. This role will be instrumental in shaping our energy storage strategy, with a focus on battery technology selection, procurement standards, and technical oversight of service contracts. You will drive cross-functional alignment and help us implement industry-leading practices across our ESS procurement and deployment activities.  Origis Energy is accelerating the clean energy transition with a vision to develop and deploy best-in-class energy storage solutions that maximize value for our customers and stakeholders. We are rapidly scaling our portfolio and expect to procure over 2 GWh of battery capacity in the coming years.

The ESS Technology Manager is a regular, full-time position, and is eligible for our generous employee benefits package, including employer paid health insurance, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employer matching contributions, and other great benefits.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Evaluation & Selection

  • Evaluate and select ESS components and integrators including lithium-ion battery vendors and non-lithium solution providers
  • Build strong technical relationships with key suppliers (batteries, inverters, EMS/software, MV transformers)
  • Collaborate with vendors to optimize solutions for quality and cost, including system sizing, Augmentation, aux model, etc.
  • Review and analyze ESS HW design, safety standards and documentation against the AHJ and PPA requirements

Procurement & Implementation & Operation Support

  • Lead technical aspects of RFPs and contract negotiations to meet project and supplier goals.
  • Assess technical risks in vendor contracts and long-term service agreement to derisk against the PPA requirements and the financial performance of the ESS project.
  • Oversee QA/QC programs and component qualification.
  • Support site/factory acceptance testing and construction-phase technical issues as necessary.
  • Provide technical specifications and price forecasts to internal stakeholders as necessary.
  • Work with Services and Asset Management teams to track system performance and apply learnings to future contracts.

Strategy & Analysis

  • Develop and execute Origis' ESS procurement strategy.
  • Define procurement processes and performance metrics for large-scale BESS.
  • Monitor ESS market trends, technology forecasts, and supplier intelligence.
  • Evaluate geopolitical and regulatory risks to supply chains and develop mitigation strategies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Engineering (MBA a plus)
  • Deep knowledge of battery technologies and ESS control systems
  • Familiarity with key suppliers and industry trends
  • QA/QC experience with battery manufacturers or ESS integrators
  • Minimum 3 years in technology evaluation and selection
  • Existing supplier relationships and experience in contract negotiation a plus
