About the Team

The Statsig team within OpenAI builds the experimentation, feature rollout, dynamic configuration, and analytics systems that help OpenAI ship products with speed, safety, and evidence. Our work sits on the critical path for how product, engineering, research, and go-to-market teams learn from real-world usage and make high-confidence decisions.

Statsig began as an independent company focused on helping builders move faster through trustworthy experimentation and feature management. After joining OpenAI, the team began its next chapter: bringing deep product expertise, customer intuition, and mature platform infrastructure into the product development system used by every OpenAI team.

Today, teams across ChatGPT, Codex, model measurement, consumer monetization, business subscriptions, developer products, and shared infrastructure rely on Statsig to safely introduce new capabilities, measure impact, and roll changes forward or back with confidence. We are at a defining moment as adoption accelerates and the platform becomes a company-wide standard.

About the Role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager, Statsig Product to lead the product engineering organization responsible for Statsig’s post-acquisition journey at OpenAI. You will define how experimentation, rollout, configuration, and analytics become a simple, reliable, and trusted part of how every OpenAI product team ships.

You will set strategy across multiple product and platform workstreams, build the organization and leadership structure needed for the next phase, and establish the operating model for a platform that serves teams across the company.

The right leader can operate across product strategy, technical architecture, organizational design, developer experience, reliability, and executive alignment. You will help preserve what made Statsig strong while integrating it deeply into how OpenAI launches, measures, learns, and makes product decisions.

In this role, you will:
  • Build, lead, and scale a high-performing product engineering organization, including managers, senior technical leaders, and product-platform engineers.

  • Define the multi-year product engineering strategy for experimentation, feature flags, dynamic configuration, rollout safety, and analytics.

  • Establish clear ownership, operating mechanisms, planning processes, and execution standards across Statsig product workstreams.

  • Partner with leaders across ChatGPT, Codex, model measurement, ads, subscriptions, developer products, research, data, and infrastructure.

  • Translate recurring launch, measurement, and experimentation needs into durable platform capabilities that serve the broader company.

  • Guide technical direction across frontend, backend, SDK, data, analytics, and infrastructure surfaces.

  • Balance rapid adoption with reliability, performance, correctness, usability, and safety.

  • Serve as a senior escalation point for complex product-platform tradeoffs, integration decisions, and cross-company prioritization.

  • Build a strong leadership bench and create an organization that can scale as Statsig becomes core infrastructure for OpenAI product development.

You might thrive in this role if you:
  • Have substantial engineering leadership experience, including leading managers or multiple engineering teams.

  • Have built or scaled product, experimentation, analytics, developer tools, growth platform, or internal platform organizations.

  • Bring strong product sense and can turn ambiguous customer workflows into durable platform strategy.

  • Can set direction across multiple workstreams while giving teams clear ownership and autonomy.

  • Have a track record of building strong leadership teams, hiring senior talent, and developing managers.

  • Can operate credibly with senior product, engineering, research, data, and infrastructure leaders.

  • Understand how to balance product quality, developer experience, reliability, performance, and adoption.

  • Are comfortable leading through high ambiguity, organizational change, and post-acquisition integration.

  • Want to shape one of the highest-leverage product platforms inside OpenAI.

Success in this role looks like:
  • A strong Statsig Product Engineering organization is built with clear leadership, ownership, priorities, and execution mechanisms.

  • Statsig has a coherent product and engineering strategy that serves teams across OpenAI.

  • Product teams can launch progressively, measure clearly, and make faster, higher-confidence decisions.

  • The platform becomes more reliable, easier to use, and more valuable as adoption scales.

  • Senior cross-functional partners trust the organization to turn company-wide needs into reusable platform capabilities.

  • Statsig becomes a core part of how OpenAI ships safely, learns quickly, and improves products at scale.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
