Who we areAbout Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

The GPTN Integrations team within MaaS is responsible for building and maintaining the core orchestration layer and related internal storage primitives (e.g. GPTN Accounts, Transit State) that power reliable, safe, compliant, and programmable movement and storage of funds within the Stripe eco-system. Money as a Service (MaaS) oversees a diverse portfolio of Stripe's core products and platforms. These offerings facilitate the global movement and management of funds for users. The teams that fall under the MaaS umbrella include: Accounts and Connect, Money Movement and Storage (MMS), Crypto and Banking as a Service (BaaS). Together, these teams work to ensure Stripe users have the robust financial infrastructure and tools they need to power their businesses on a global scale.

As the gateway to the Money Movement and Storage Platform, the team provides a programmable interface built on foundational primitives. These primitives serve as the “assembly language” of GPTN, designed for safety, reliability, and compliance, while also supporting seamless expansion into new geographies, financial partners, payment rails, currencies, and regulatory environments. In 2024 and 2025, our primitives powered key Stripe company OKRs such as Global Payouts, Payments Orchestration, the new Financial Accounts dashboard, Stripe Balance Payments.

What you’ll do

We are looking for an exceptional engineering manager who is excited to lead a group of engineers to solve challenging distributed systems problems, as well as developing empathetic partnerships with other Stripe teams to understand their use-case and unlock new capabilities. You will excel in this role if you take calculated risks to deliver results without compromising reliability. If you enjoy building distributed systems, investing in a high-performing team, and collaborating with product and infrastructure teams alike, this role will be a great opportunity for your career.

You will:

  • Demonstrate strong first principles thinking when approaching complex problems and system design
  • Manage a team of ambitious backend engineers ranging from new grads to staff with 0-4+ years of tenure at Stripe.
  • Foster a healthy team culture with a high level of trust, autonomy, and psychological safety.
  • Lead and manage processes to help the team do their best work and engage effectively with the rest of Stripe.
  • Collaborate with product and infra engineering teams to deliver a cohesive solution.

Who you are

We are looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience managing teams that shipped and operated critical distributed system infrastructure.
  • Works effectively cross-functionally and is able to think rigorously, communicate effectively, and make or coordinate hard decisions and trade-offs.
  • Thrives with a high degree of autonomy and responsibility in an ambiguous environment.
  • Technical acumen to drive clarity with staff engineers about architecture and technical strategic decisions.
  • Consistent track record of hiring and leading productive engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience building and maintaining multi-tenant platform systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for different audiences (leadership, users, company-wide).
  • Experience building and leading a distributed team that works across multiple locations and time zones.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
