SUMMARY
As an Engineering Manager at SQUIRE, you will build and lead a team of developers responsible for our core barber facing web platform, Commander - the backbone that empowers our customers to streamline their operations and grow their business. 

You will collaborate closely with the Commander Product Manager to shape the product strategy and roadmap, ensuring the platform evolves to meet customer needs and aligns with overall business objectives. You will lead a talented engineering team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and accountability.  

As the Engineering Manager, you’ll oversee development processes, manage project delivery, and drive the technical direction of the admin platform. Your work will be essential in maintaining a scalable, reliable, and user-friendly product that supports business-critical operations for our customers.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Team Leadership
  • Lead and manage a team of highly skilled engineers, including distributed contract developers, ensuring alignment with the company’s technical vision and strategic goals
  • Cultivate a high-performance engineering culture that emphasizes continuous improvement, open communication, and innovation
  • Promote a culture of accountability and autonomy, ensuring team members clearly understand how their work aligns with and contributes to organizational goals

  • Technical Execution
  • Oversee the implementation of responsive web designs, ensuring compatibility across browsers, devices, and screen sizes
  • Lead the development and maintenance of the Commander web application, focusing on scalability, reliability, and performance
  • Define and implement a strategic approach to prioritization, ensuring that work delivers the highest impact for users and the business
  • Ensure the team adheres to best practices in software development, architecture, and operational excellence

  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement  
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, and other stakeholders to align technical capabilities with product vision and user experience
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to define clear acceptance criteria, delivery timelines, and post-launch success metrics
  • Act as a technical liaison between the engineering team and executive leadership, providing regular updates on project progress and strategic recommendations.

  • Process Improvement & Innovation
  • Drive improvements in engineering processes to reduce cycle time and optimize team efficiency
  • Lead initiatives to modernize the technical stack, ensuring the adoption of innovative solutions to enhance product capabilities
  • Partner with other engineering managers to drive process innovation, cross-team collaboration, and knowledge-sharing across the organization
  • Promote the use of data-driven approaches to monitor, analyze, and improve system performance and reliability

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an Engineering Manager or similar leadership role, with a history of managing remote development teams
  • Strong technical foundation, with deep knowledge of modern full-stack development practices, architectures, and tools, including JavaScript frameworks (e.g. Node.js, React.js)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams through complex projects, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality software solutions
  • Experience working within a highly collaborative, remote-first environment, driving a team that ships code to production often
  • Comfortable participating in architectural discussions, asking informative questions, and assisting the team in making strategic trade-offs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment
  • E-Commerce, FinTech or Payments experience preferred
