SimSpace is looking for a Manager, Software Engineering to lead a new team developing the Individual Training platform within the SimSpace ecosystem which will allow individual users to train on our cyber range platform. The ideal candidate must have strong management skills to lead teams in delivering high-quality software using Agile methods. This person will be devoted to continual improvement and fostering a team culture that values collaboration, inclusion, and creativity.

In this position, you’ll lead your team through complex technical projects and collaborate closely with other teams to build scalable, reliable software. The focus is on providing oversight, guidance, work plans, and engineering know-how for a new platform being built largely from scratch. Specifically, this position will be tasked with:

  • Standing up and leading a new engineering team dedicated to the Individual Training platform.

  • Driving the design, development, and operation of new software services and infrastructure.

  • Coordinating with contractors and contracted employees to augment internal engineering capacity.

What will you be doing as a Manager, Software Engineering at SimSpace?

  • Lead and manage a newly formed engineering team tasked with the design, development, and maintenance of our Individual Training platform.

  • Partner with product management to ensure development projects are aligned with business objectives and timelines.

  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of features.

  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, and resource allocations to ensure successful project execution.

  • Work with the Quality Assurance team to ensure delivery of high-quality software products that meet customer needs.

  • Mentor and coach team members, promoting their professional growth and development.

  • Manage and integrate work performed by contractors and contracted employees into the overall product.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices in software development and cybersecurity.

  • Continuously improve and adapt Agile processes to enhance the team’s velocity, quality, and delivery of platform features.

Who you are:

  • Experienced software engineering manager with a background in software development and architecture.

  • Proven ability to successfully lead and manage software engineering teams, including distributed or hybrid teams with contractors.

  • Strong technical skills with the ability to understand and solve complex technical problems.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams.

  • Enthusiastic about delivering high-quality software products that meet customer needs.

  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Learning Record Stores (LRS) is a strong plus.

  • Knowledgeable of industry standards and best practices in software development.

  • Comfortable with Agile software development methodologies and able to adapt to changing business needs.

  • Skilled at mentoring and coaching team members to foster growth and development.

  • Results-driven with a focus on meeting project objectives and timelines.

  • Motivated to stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.

What are the qualifications to apply? To be successful as a Manager, Software Engineering, you must have:

  • Deep knowledge of software development practices, methodologies, and tools.

  • Proven experience leading and managing software engineering teams to deliver high-quality software products.

  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to encourage and inspire team members.

  • Hands-on experience with Agile software development methodologies.

  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices in software development.

  • 6+ years of experience in software development with at least 2+ years in a managerial role.

  • Experience working with contractors or external development teams.

  • Experience with unit testing, integration testing, and deploying services in Kubernetes or a similar container orchestration platform.

  • Demonstrated ability to design, build, and operate large, distributed systems, including experience in requirements gathering, project breakdown, and execution.

  • Experience developing and operating services at scale.

  • Experience developing and deploying solutions for both cloud and on-premises environments.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
