This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, partnering closely with engineers and Product, and helping teams deliver meaningful business outcomes.

You’ll lead a team responsible for building and evolving software that directly impacts patients, providers, and partners. Beyond people leadership, you'll help guide technical direction, support architectural decisions, and create an environment where engineers can do their best work. This role is ideal for a leader who values pragmatism over process, understands how to balance speed and quality, and enjoys developing high-performing teams that consistently deliver reliable, scalable software.

What You Will Do:

  • Partner closely with Product Management and stakeholders to prioritize work, align on business outcomes, and ensure teams are solving meaningful problems.
  • Collaborate with engineers on technical designs and architectural decisions, helping teams deliver scalable, maintainable, and secure solutions aligned with broader engineering goals.
  • Provide technical guidance across architecture, implementation, and delivery, helping engineers make sound decisions and navigate tradeoffs effectively.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of your team's systems and contribute technical insight when needed.
  • Create clarity in ambiguous situations, helping teams break down complex initiatives into actionable plans and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Establish effective operating rhythms and delivery practices that balance execution, quality, and sustainability.
  • Drive adoption of modern engineering practices including CI/CD, automated testing, observability, AI-assisted development workflows and more.
  • Coach and mentor engineers through feedback, career development, and technical growth.
  • Identify technical, operational, and delivery risks early and help teams navigate them successfully.

What You Have:

At Synapse Health we’ve intentionally built a culture of kindness, collaboration and creativity, and we consider those qualities to be table stakes for any new team member. Additional requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including at least one year of experience leading engineers through direct management.
  • Experience leading engineering teams responsible for customer-facing or business-critical software products.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and the ability to collaborate on technical designs, evaluate tradeoffs, and guide teams toward sound engineering decisions.
  • Experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems and cloud-native applications in production environments.
  • Experience partnering closely with Product Management and business stakeholders to prioritize work, make tradeoffs, and deliver business outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of modern software development practices including CI/CD, automated testing, observability, incident management, and release processes.
  • Experience working in cloud environments such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance speed, quality, technical debt, and long-term maintainability.
  • Experience leading teams through ambiguity, organizational change, and evolving business priorities.
  • Familiarity with regulated environments involving sensitive customer or healthcare data is preferred.
  • Experience with C#, .NET, and Azure is helpful but not required. We welcome leaders from any modern object-oriented engineering background who can quickly learn new technologies and guide teams through sound engineering practices.

What Sets You Apart:

  • Diligent Execution: You maintain high standards for quality, reliability, and engineering excellence while creating an environment where engineers take ownership of outcomes.
  • Pragmatic Judgment: You focus on solving real business problems and help teams make thoughtful tradeoffs that balance speed, simplicity, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Technical Leadership: You provide guidance on technical decisions, help teams navigate complexity, and create an environment where engineers can deliver high-quality solutions with confidence.
  • Proactive Ownership: You identify risks early, create clarity in ambiguous situations, and help teams drive important work to completion.
  • Collaborative Impact: You build strong partnerships across teams, communicate effectively, and align stakeholders around shared goals and outcomes.
  • People Development: You genuinely enjoy helping engineers grow through mentorship, feedback, accountability, and career development.
