Summary 

The Office of Research helps to facilitate life-saving biomedical research at MCW. Nine distinct units provide specialized support to meet the administrative needs of our investigators and research staff, and together we coordinate, regulate, and monitor research studies. Within our Research Systems unit, our development team provides front and back end support for the institutions primary research applications.

The Enterprise Application Developer II directly supports a major enterprise research application used by most research teams at MCW. Under limited supervision, the Developer develops and implements business solutions through the full software life cycle. The Developer is specifically responsible for the design, development, testing, integration, deployment, and maintenance of complex research software applications. The individual in this role can take pride in supporting medical research and innovative discoveries for improving patient health.

This position is fully remote, and all remote work must be performed within one of the MCW registered payroll states, which currently includes: WI, AZ, FL, IL, IN, MD, MI, MN, MO, NC, TN,TX, UT, GA, and DE.

 

Primary Responsibilities
  • Designs, analyzes, codes, tests, debugs, modifies and documents moderately complex applications requiring thorough knowledge of business applications and processes with little or no supervision. 

  • Mentors and coaches development staff. Provides guidance and training as necessary, ensuring that established standards and best practices are being consistently followed by the development team. 

  • Contributes to the established development standards, guidelines, and processes in a continual cycle of development life cycle process improvement. 

  • Functions as a point of contact to answer questions and provide technical leadership for the development team.

  • Quickly converts concepts and ideas into solutions through the preparation of detailed specifications consistent with the IS development methodology for business application projects and customizations that will be integrated with existing applications. 

  • Analyzes, designs, and modifies existing business applications and processes, and provides recommendations for system and process improvements. 

  • Diagnoses and resolves problems in the maintenance and support of business applications. 

  • Operates within a complex product and business environment requiring the ability to manage multiple requests.  Able to work independently and maintain focus on priority tasks. 

  • Collaborates with the business and management teams to develop efficient plans, processes, timelines and work required for addressing all identified support and upgrade activities. 

  • Partners with end-users and technical staff to diagnose and resolve problems relating to a variety of business processes. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities 
  • 5 or more years of progressively more responsible development experience

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and attentiveness to detail required.

  • Experience in business process management software: development, validation, testing proper workflow progressions is very desirable.

  • Ability to convert concepts and ideas into finished solutions, through the collaboration with business users of varying experience.

  • Ability to manage projects in a full lifecycle environment. 

  • A good understanding of, and some experience with, web services.

  • Experience with reporting services through SSRS, and experience pulling data from multiple databases (SQL Server, Workday, etc) into dashboards or reports is required. 

  • Prior experience using a software configuration management system, bug-tracking system, and business object frameworks.

  • Experience working in an SaaS environment is desirable.

  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Suite of Products.

  • Customer support, systems analysis, troubleshooting, problem solving, and listening skills. 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and attentiveness to detail required. 

Qualifications 

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.  

 

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s degree 

Minimum Required Experience: 5 years 

Preferred Education:  Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related area                 

Preferred Experience: Familiarity with testing or development in business process management software environments.                  

 

Physical Requirements 

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously. 

 

Work Environment 

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment. 

 

Sensory Acuity 

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects. 

The target salary range for this position is $81,100 - $103,300 annually. The final offered salary will depend on the applicant’s education, experience, skills, and knowledge, as well as considerations of internal equity and market alignment.
