Business Unit Overview:

Our Financial Institutions Group (FIG) develops and fosters connectivity and drives business outcomes with insurance companies by leveraging insurance expertise, a global platform, and BlackRock’s leading capabilities in asset management, markets advisory, and risk technology. We are the largest 3rd party manager of insurance assets in the world with over $700 billion of invested assets across public and private fixed income, equity and multi-asset investment strategies.

The Strategic Capital Solutions team works alongside the FIG team focusing on building and executing strategic, multi-dimensional relationships with insurers beyond the typical insurance asset management engagements. We work with insurance companies and investors to deliver capital solutions, including capital from BlackRock’s balance sheet, that will allow our insurance partners to successfully grow and benefit from scaled access to BlackRock’s leading asset management, advisory and technology capabilities. These strategic partnerships will drive meaningful growth for BlackRock, accelerate the development of our private markets platform, and allow our investor clients to participate in attractive investment opportunities.

The Strategic Capital Solutions team is seeking to add a Vice President to the team, based in New York. The individual will be a key contributor to FIG’s success and work closely with the rest of the team as well as other groups within BlackRock to drive business strategy and strategic transactions aligned with the objectives outlined above.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and executing business strategy for the Strategic Capital Solutions group synthesizing industry data, trends and observations to drive informed decision-making that will continue to propel the success of the FIG and BlackRock platforms.
  • Support and execute high-leverage cross-functional initiatives that require a holistic understanding of industry trends and BlackRock’s platform.
  • Drive execution of strategic relationships, partnerships and investments with / in insurers that are aligned with BlackRock’s long-term objectives.
  • Coordinate with key stakeholders (internal and external) as needed to quarterback projects and strategic transactions.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with co-investors and track outreach data for all co-investment opportunities

  • Experience in developing and driving critical business strategy and transactions for the world’s largest and leading asset manager.
  • Exposure to senior strategy and investment professionals, and executive management at leading insurance companies, pension plans, sovereign wealth funds and investment firms.
  • Exposure to senior leaders in the FIG, executive, client, and investment functions within BlackRock, as well as senior professionals at insurance companies, investment banks, and advisors.
  • Potential development to broader responsibility and leadership roles within Strategic Capital Solutions team, Strategy and/or broader FIG business.

Candidate Qualifications / Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree with strong record of academic achievement
  • Minimum of 5 years professional work experience, ideally within investment banking advisory, or in the life insurance or reinsurance sector; M&A, corporate strategy, and corporate development experience will be viewed favorably
  • Domain expertise in insurance and/or insurance asset management
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills; ability to distill complex ideas into clear and concise concepts
  • Strong financial analysis, data management and presentation skills
  • Project and process management skills, including proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • High attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and motivation
  • Ability to build interpersonal relationships across teams and seniority levels
