As our first Financial Controller, you’ll be the cornerstone of our accounting function — building scalable processes, ensuring GAAP-compliant financial reporting, and partnering with leadership to guide strategic growth.

You’re a hands-on accounting leader with SaaS industry and startup experience, a mastery of US GAAP and ASC 606, and the ability to thrive in high-growth, fast-changing environments. If you’ve led ERP implementations, managed audits, and built accounting teams from the ground up, we want to hear from you.

What You’ll Do
  • Own and optimize month-end, quarter-end, and annual close processes to ensure accurate, GAAP-compliant reporting.
  • Oversee compliance and filings for federal, state, and local income taxes as well as sales tax.
  • Manage relationships with external partners (accountants, auditors, bankers, insurance carriers, tax advisors).
  • Lead completion of our first external audit and maintain ongoing compliance.
  • Oversee billing operations and the quote-to-cash process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and a smooth SaaS customer experience.
  • Implement scalable accounting systems and automation to shorten close cycles.
  • Drive improvements in internal controls, accounting procedures, and SaaS financial systems.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Sales, RevOps, Legal, People, and FP&A to support growth.
  • Mentor our Staff Accountant and help build a high-performance accounting team.
Qualifications
  • 8–12+ years total accounting experience, including public accounting (Big 4 or similar) and in-house SaaS startup roles.
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP, ASC 606, revenue recognition for subscription-based businesses, and multi-entity/multi-currency accounting.
  • Proven success leading fast monthly closes, managing external audits, and implementing scalable processes.
  • ERP experience (NetSuite strongly preferred) plus finance tech stack familiarity (billing, rev rec, AP automation, expenses).
  • CPA strongly preferred; public company or SOX exposure is a plus.
  • High-growth startup mindset — thrives in ambiguity, builds from scratch, and scales through automation.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
