ABOUT NW AMBULANCE

NW Ambulance is a growing EMS provider delivering critical transport services across multiple locations in the Puget Sound region. We operate in a high-volume, operationally complex environment with outsourced billing and a strong focus on reliability, compliance, and financial performance.

This is not a desk-bound accounting role. Success here requires genuine partnership with operations leadership and active engagement with the realities of a 24/7 EMS organization.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We're looking for a Controller to lead our accounting function, ensure financial accuracy, and provide clear visibility into company performance. You'll serve as a strategic financial partner to executive leadership and operations — guiding decisions through accurate reporting, operational insight, and financial forecasting.

This role is empowered to improve processes, strengthen controls, and modernize our financial reporting systems. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, operationally disciplined, and comfortable in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Financial reporting & close — Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close (target: <15 days). Prepare accurate P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reports that are audit-ready.
  • Billing oversight — Reconcile third-party billing reports against actual cash receipts. Monitor collection rates, adjustments, write-offs, and billing fees. Evaluate and make recommendations on the third-party billing relationship.
  • Cash flow management — Monitor daily/weekly cash position; forecast short- and long-term needs; ensure liquidity for payroll, operations, and growth.
  • Fleet & asset accounting — Oversee accounting for our ambulance fleet and medical equipment, including depreciation schedules and capital expenditure planning.
  • Operational & KPI reporting — Build reporting that connects operational metrics (units, runs, staffing) to financial outcomes. Analyze labor costs, unit utilization, and departmental margins.
  • Accounting operations — Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, and payroll accounting via ADP Workforce Now and QuickBooks Enterprise. Manage WA PFML, L&I, and cares fund compliance.
  • Controls & process improvement — Establish strong financial controls and improve systems and reporting processes.
  • Leadership — Manage and develop accounting staff; communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.

Requirements

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

 Required:

• 5–10+ years of accounting experience

• Strong background in financial reporting, month-end close, and reconciliations

• Experience working with or overseeing third-party billing or revenue cycle

• Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now or equivalent payroll platform

• Knowledge of Washington State compliance: WA PFML, L&I, and cares fund

Preferred:

• CPA or equivalent experience

• Background in healthcare, EMS, or similar high-volume operations

• Experience in multi-location businesses

• Fleet and asset accounting experience

• Proficiency in QuickBooks Enterprise; familiarity with Sage, NetSuite, or Microsoft Dynamics also valued

• Familiarity with EMS or medical transport economics

Benefits

We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance to ensure the well-being and health of our employees.

Exempt employees who are scheduled to work on a designated company holiday will receive holiday pay in accordance with Northwest Ambulance policy.

We invest in your future with a 401(k)-retirement plan that includes an employer match of up to 5%, helping you build a long-term financial security.

We value work-life balance and offer paid time off, giving you the flexibility to rest, recharge, and take care of what matters most.

To maintain a professional and consistent appearance across our team, uniforms are provided to all employees, ensuring you always look your best while representing our company.

Wages:

Our wage range is $140,000-$175,000 annually. Placement within the range depends on CPA status, depth of EMS or healthcare experience, and billing oversight background.

Application Closing Date: June 29, 2026 by 5pm

Please include a cover letter with your resume.

We are an equal opportunity employer and consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected status.

Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
