About Headstarter

Headstarter has built a 120,000+ engineer community and works directly with some of the fastest-growing companies in the U.S. on their most critical hiring decisions. We’re now turning that network into a high-signal talent platform that connects exceptional engineers with founders who are actively building. Our products sit on both sides of the marketplace: consumer experiences used by engineers and B2B systems used by founders, hiring managers, and startup teams. Design is a critical aspect of this, as it directly determines trust, conversion, and hiring outcomes at scale.

The Role

We’re looking for a UI / UX Designer who can own and elevate the end-to-end design experience across Headstarter’s consumer and B2B products. You’ll be designing interfaces used daily by thousands of engineers nationwide and by founders actively hiring and evaluating talent.

You’ll work directly with the cofounders, collaborating closely with:

  • Faizan Ahmed (Co-founder)

  • Yasin Ehsan (Co-founder)

This is a high-ownership role with real influence over product direction.

What You’ll Work On
  • Designing intuitive, polished consumer experiences for engineers (profiles, onboarding, dashboards, evaluations)

  • Designing scalable B2B workflows for founders and startups (candidate discovery, hiring flows, analytics, internal tools)

  • Translating ambiguous product ideas into clear user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity designs

  • Creating and maintaining a cohesive design system across multiple products

  • Collaborating closely with engineers to ensure designs ship exactly as intended

  • Rapid iteration based on user feedback, data, and founder input

What We’re Looking For
  • Strong UI and UX fundamentals with an eye for clean, modern design

  • Experience designing either consumer or enterprise products

  • Ability to think in systems, not just screens

  • Comfort working in fast-moving startup environments with tight deadlines

  • Strong communication skills and willingness to challenge ideas (including the founders’) when needed

Preferred Requirements
  • Experience in leading initiatives and launching to production

  • Seed - Series B startup experience is highly preferred

  • Experience working closely with founders, engineers, or product leads is a big plus

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
