ABOUT OODLE

Oodle’s mission is to build an iconic observability company! Oodle enables developer and SRE teams to handle 10x more data at a tenth of the price. Oodle is disrupting Observability just like snowflake has disrupted data warehousing. We are taking a unique and fundamentally new architectural approach to Observability by building a unified experience for logs, metrics and traces. We’re a seed funded company backed by the top tier VCs in the Observability, and Infra/AI spaces. We deeply care about diverse teams, especially diversity of thought and perspective.

The founders are serial entrepreneurs (ex-Rubrik, AWS, YC, and IIT Alumni) who have built world class teams over the last decade. Our founders have helped Rubrik scale from <5M from a single product line to $600M across multiple product lines. We’ve worked at Rubrik, AWS, ran a YC-backed observability startup, and have built and launched products like AWS S3, DynamoDB and made open source contributions in CockroachDB. We’re a really unique team - we are our own customers, and lived through these pain points for 8+ years - both as a buyer of observability at a high scale company for 4.5 years (Rubrik) and as a company builder selling to the same buyer (4+ years at YC startup).

ABOUT THE JOB

As a Founding Engineer on the team, you will get to:

  • Disrupt a large existing market with deep technical insights. You’ll be on the ground floor of creating a product like Snowflake, Google BigQuery, Rubrik, DataBricks, Confluent, CockroachDB, DynamoDB, ClickHouse, Amazon Redshift, Amazon Aurora (from scratch).

  • Wear multiple hats - rapid experimentation to find customer needs, and building software, talking to customers, eliminating ambiguity, and focusing/deciding on the things that matter.

  • Optimize our software stack and database engine for cost, performance and scale. Every CPU cycle counts!

  • Set the foundation for company culture and help grow the team

ABOUT YOU

You are a self-starter, passionate, and enjoy solving hard technical problems. You're a missionary. You've stellar work ethic, integrity and commitment. You crave working with stunning colleagues, cherish your entrepreneurial mindset, and would like to start a new company yourself one day. Our goal is to motivate and challenge people to do their best work.

The best way to launch a startup is to take part in a top-notch startup and learn it all first hand from a seasoned/repeat founding team! Bottom line, if you have a limitless drive, startup mindset and like to win, we want to talk to you - come make history!

Must Haves:

  • Entrepreneurial mindset - you can’t stop thinking about starting a company one day or want to be a part of journey creating something extraordinary that everyone thought was barely possible

  • 5-8+ years of relevant work experience

  • Experience architecting and developing large scale distributed systems, database systems or storage systems

  • Proficiency in one or more general purpose programming languages like Go, Java, C/C++, Scala, Python, Rust

Nice to Haves:

  • Architecting observability systems from ground up is a huge plus

  • Familiarity with one or more of the following areas: distributed systems, storage systems, caching systems, LLMs, and AI.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Unlimited PTO

  • Top tier health, medical, and dental benefits

  • Meaningful equity ownership

  • Stunning colleagues

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
