About Summation

Summation is building the future of business planning and analytics by bridging the gap between data and decision-making. We empower organizations to transform complex data into clear, actionable insights that drive business outcomes. Our AI-native platform integrates advanced data models with intuitive workflows, making enterprise performance management simple, collaborative, and effective.

The Role

We are looking for a Founding Recruiter with 3–6 years of experience supporting hiring at high-growth startups. This person will be responsible for owning the full recruiting funnel, from sourcing to coordination to candidate experience, and will play a foundational role in building Summation’s hiring engine as we scale.

As our first in-house recruiting hire, you will develop processes from the ground up, partner closely with leadership on headcount planning, and ensure we hire world-class talent across technical and GTM roles. You’ll report directly to the Head of Business Operations and work closely with the CEO, CTO, and functional leads.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in early-stage environments, enjoys being hands-on across sourcing and coordination, and wants to build the recruiting function at a company entering a high-growth phase.

Key Responsibilities
  • Full-Cycle Recruiting: Manage end-to-end hiring across multiple functions (engineering, product, sales, operations). Own intake, sourcing, screening, coordination, and closing support.

  • Sourcing & Pipeline Generation: Build top-of-funnel pipelines through outbound sourcing, market mapping, tools, and creative strategies. Develop repeatable outreach and candidate engagement playbooks.

  • Candidate Experience: Run fast, structured, and high-quality interview processes that reflect Summation’s culture and values. Ensure candidates feel informed, respected, and excited.

  • Process & Infrastructure: Build and optimize recruiting workflows, tools, and dashboards (ATS setup, pipeline reporting, interview calibration, scheduling processes).

  • Cross-functional Partnership: Work with hiring managers to define role requirements, assess talent needs, improve the interview process, and make strong hiring decisions.

  • Recruiting Operations: Manage scheduling, scorecard management, feedback loops, and pipeline hygiene across all roles. Maintain accurate ATS data and reporting.

  • Scaling the Function: Help develop Summation’s recruiting brand, interview training, compensation benchmarking, onboarding flow, and early guidelines for hiring excellence.

Qualifications
  • 3–6 years of experience in recruiting, talent acquisition, sourcing, or hybrid recruiting/coordination roles.

  • Experience hiring in high-growth, early-stage (Seed–Series C) startups strongly preferred.

  • Strong sourcing skills across engineering and GTM roles; experience generating pipelines in competitive talent markets.

  • Track record of managing 10–20+ hires per year and partnering with founders or functional leaders through rapid scaling.

  • Experience running structured recruiting processes and effectively managing an ATS (Ashby preferred).

  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills; able to keep candidates and hiring teams aligned in fast-paced environments.

  • A hands-on builder who thrives in ambiguous, zero-to-one settings and is motivated to design a recruiting function from scratch.

Bonus Points
  • Experience as the first or early recruiter at a startup.

  • Familiarity with compensation benchmarking, basic headcount planning, or recruiting analytics.

  • Experience supporting hiring in technical or AI-focused companies.

What We Offer
  • Competitive salary and equity options

  • Flexible (Unlimited) Paid Time Off

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits for you and your family

  • 401(k) Plan

  • Parental Leave

  • A collaborative environment where your contributions directly impact our customers

  • Opportunities for growth and career development

  • The chance to work on cutting-edge technology that is transforming how businesses plan and execute

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
