FP&A Manager

About Players Health

At Players Health, we are on a mission to create the safest and most accessible environment for an athlete to play the sports that they love. There are over 50 million youth athletes playing sports in the U.S., and they are counting on us to ensure that the environment that they are coming into not only accepts them for who they are, but fills them with encouragement, love, and inspiration.

Players Health is a VC and PE-backed, mission-driven, sports technology platform providing digital risk management services, reporting tools and insurance products to sports organizations to comply with the changing athletic environment and responsibilities. We operate two businesses – both a Managing General Agent (MGA) and an insurance brokerage – a dual model that makes our financial operations uniquely complex, fast-moving, and meaningful.

Our Core Values

We cannot achieve our mission without having a strong culture. We believe that at the core of a strong culture is a shared set of values. The values that we hold true and look for our employees to embrace are as follows:

  • Lead with Mission: Our mission always comes first. If we stay on mission as an organization then we believe we will be successful in our professional and personal lives.
  • Go Beyond: We're not satisfied with just "good enough" - we go above and beyond to achieve awesome results that impress and inspire.
  • Operate like Owners: We believe in operational excellence. We take ownership of our work and approach every task with a sense of pride, responsibility, and commitment to excellence. We don't rent our roles - we own them and strive to make a lasting impact.
  • Virtue First: From the big decisions to the small details; honesty, integrity, and transparency are the bedrock of our culture and the foundation for everything we do.
  • Service: We live to serve others with humility, empathy, and kindness. We put our customers, colleagues and community first, and always strive to exceed their expectations with a smile.

About The Role

The FP&A Manager is an individual contributor on a small, high-ownership finance team at a scaling insurance technology company. This role is the functional expert in financial planning and analysis, data and analytics activities to support strategic decision making. This role will be expected to deliver accurate forecasts, budgets, and performance insights, supporting leadership and influencing the business. This role will report to the Chief Financial Reporting, with a secondary reporting relationship to the Corporate Controller.

You’ll bring deep FP&A expertise and experience in the uniquely complex world of insurance FP&A, applying it in an environment where the processes, systems and controls are still being shaped. This is not a role where you inherit a fully built machine and maintain it – you’ll have the opportunity to evaluate what exists, identify what’s missing, and partner with leadership to build toward something more scalable and efficient. The ideal candidate is excited to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other technologies to support process automation. You’ll operate both hands-on and strategically, partnering closely with underwriting, operations, HR, and other departments.

The ideal candidate has spent meaningful time in MGA, wholesale brokerage, or carrier environments, and brings the mindset of a builder – someone who sees a manual process as an opportunity, not just a task. The FP&A Manager has a compensation range of $120,000 - $140,000, plus equity, depending on skills and experience. Other benefits include:

  • Remote-First: Work from any approved location (home) in the U.S. (Preference to candidates in states which we already have employee presence, CT/ET time zone preferred)
  • Time Off: Flexible PTO policy, 10 company-paid holidays
  • Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, LTD, STD, 401k, and additional ancillary voluntary coverage options available
  • Professional Development & Tools: Access to The Institutes Knowledge Group platform for ongoing insurance education and continued professional development in the industry. Additionally, this role will have access to Claude Enterprise.

You will join an organization going through significant growth as well as digital transformation, with great ability to influence and grow. We instill a mindset of ownership and accountability with all team members, building a “playbook” for best practices – defining expectations to meet the vision and strategy for growth.

Responsibilities (are inclusive of but not limited to):

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Lead the annual budgeting process, quarterly forecasts, and multi-year financial planning, partnering with business leaders across the organization
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance financial models to support forecasting, performance tracking, and scenario analysis across cost centers and business segments
  • Analyze revenue trends, margins, partner performance, and operational efficiency to provide actionable insights that inform business decisions
  • Track and evaluate key performance metrics, including gross written premium (GWP), net revenue, commission income, and customer acquisition costs
  • Evaluate the financial impact of new distribution agreements, fee structures, and carrier relationships on overall profitability and P&L performance
  • Support strategic initiatives through financial modeling and analysis, including pricing strategies, partner negotiations, M&A, and capital allocation

Process Improvement & Data Management

  • Establish, document, and continuously improve processes, procedures, and internal controls
  • Partner with systems, operations, and data teams to improve data quality, streamline reporting processes, and enhance automation capabilities
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting efficiency, scalability, and accuracy through process and system enhancements
  • Leverage AI and advanced tools to streamline financial planning and reporting, enabling a stronger focus on insightful analysis and strategic decision-making

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Reporting

  • Deliver monthly and quarterly management reporting, including dashboards, KPIs, and variance analyses across business units and partner channels
  • Prepare and contribute to board-level reporting and investor updates, supporting strategic growth narratives with robust financial data
  • Provide clear, data-driven insights to leadership on financial performance, risks, and opportunities
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between financial planning, operational execution, and strategic objectives
  • Build strong partnerships with business leaders to better understand drivers of financial performance and support decision-making
  • Participate in special projects and ad hoc analyses as needed to support business priorities
  • Occasional travel for team collaboration, engagement activities, and company events
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 Minimum Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
  • 6+ years of FP&A experience, corporate finance, or strategic finance
  • Knowledge of the economics of MGA/broker-driven insurance models (understanding of GWP, net commissions, contingency income, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of financial close processes, reconciliations, and internal controls
  • Experience with accounting systems and financial technology
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Strong operational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and deadlines
  • Demonstrated effective communicator and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated ability to influence outcomes and drive process improvements without direct authority
  • Openness to adopting innovative technologies, including AI, to drive efficiency and accuracy in building a best-in-class FP&A foundation for Players Health.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify operational gaps and build toward more scalable solutions – a true builder, wanting to do more than maintain existing processes
  • High integrity and sound professional judgment when handling sensitive and confidential matters

Desired Qualifications & Characteristics:

Insurance & MGA Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in FP&A, corporate finance, or strategic finance, ideally in insurance, financial services, or a distribution-heavy business

Builder & Scaling Mindset

  • Experience building or scaling processes in a growing or high-change organization
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity – able to assess what exists, identify what’s missing, and create structure where there isn’t any
  • Track record of reducing manual processes through automation, better tooling, or smarter workflows
  • Experience collaborating across departments (underwriting, operations, technology, leadership) to solve problems that don’t fit neatly in one function
  • Demonstrated experience using AI and other innovative technologies to build process, tools and efficiencies in the finance function

Technical & Credentials

  • Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP systems
  • Familiarity with Insurtech platforms, CRMs or MGA-specific systems

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to travel occasionally for team events, collaboration, or conferences
  • Must have a dedicated, safe, and secure remote work environment
  • Must have the ability to work and be productive in a remote setting
  • Exceptionally self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously
  • Proactive communicator across email, verbal, and instant messaging
  • Willingness to attend virtual meetings, primarily with camera on (we value connection and culture)
  • Located in or willing to work Central or Eastern Time Zone (see About This Role for location preferences specific to this position)
  • Must be 18 years or older and work location must be in the United States
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
