As the Head of Communications you will develop and lead Tempus’s strategic communications across healthcare, AI, technology, and life sciences audiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage proactive and reactive media relations, including product launches, scientific milestones, partnerships, and corporate news.

  • Develop and promote Tempus’s corporate narrative and messaging across internal and external channels.

  • Oversee social media strategy and execution driving organic and paid content to support corporate, product, and executive narratives. 

  • Lead crisis and issues management planning and response, partnering closely with Legal and executive leadership.

  • Build executive thought leadership by securing speaking opportunities, media interviews, and bylined content.

  • Coordinate with Investor Relations 

  • Own and execute Tempus’s internal communications strategy, ensuring employees are aligned with company priorities, values, and vision.

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the executive team on public relations, leadership messaging, and sensitive communications.

  • Develop communications strategy for all-hands meetings, executive announcements, and internal campaigns in partnership with People and Legal teams.

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing communications and PR team, including agency partners.

  • Establish success metrics and reporting to measure impact, engagement, and sentiment.

  • Demonstrate Tempus’ Values by acting with integrity, respect, and trust, and representing our company culture at all times to external and internal constituents.

Required Skills:

  • Public company experience is strongly preferred.

  • Sound judgment and experience managing high-stakes, sensitive and crisis communications.

  • Proven ability to lead both internal communications and external PR for complex, scaling organizations.

  • Strong executive presence dealing with members of media and advising C-suite and senior leaders.

  • Exceptional storytelling skills and ability to translate complex scientific and technical concepts into clear narratives.

Required Education and Experience:

  • 5-10 years of proven experience driving communications, public relations, or corporate affairs strategy and teams.

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA preferred.

  • A proven track record of success in building and leading teams and managing external agencies.

Pay Range: $190,000 - $300,000 USD

The expected salary range above is applicable if the role is performed from Illinois and may vary for other locations (California, Colorado, New York). Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience. Tempus offers a full range of benefits, which may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical and other benefits depending on the position.
