What we Do

The Marketing and Communications team at Mapbox is responsible for shaping the company's public image and promoting its location technology solutions. We communicate the value of Mapbox to customers, prospects, developers, partners, and stakeholders through strategic campaigns and high-quality content that highlight product features, share customer success stories, and build brand awareness of Mapbox.

What You'll Do

We’re looking for a Director of Marketing to lead and unify the core marketing functions at Mapbox—corporate marketing and communications, demand generation, and product marketing. In this role, you will shape and execute our go-to-market strategy, build integrated programs that scale, and deliver product-led messaging that resonates with developers, decision-makers, and partners. You’ll set the vision and direction for a high-impact team while staying close to execution—driving campaigns, crafting narratives, and building systems that convert. Above all, you’ll bring a results-driven mindset, ensuring our marketing investments consistently deliver a strong return and fuel business growth.

  • Lead Strategic Vision: Define and drive a unified marketing strategy aligning brand, demand generation, and product marketing with company goals, developing KPIs and growth models for product-led and enterprise success.

  • Build and Mentor Team: Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing marketing team across demand generation, product marketing, and corporate marketing, fostering a test-and-learn culture that drives rapid iteration and continuous improvement.

  • Drive Demand Generation: Spearhead integrated campaigns to boost developer adoption, self-serve sign-ups, and enterprise pipeline, overseeing paid acquisition, lifecycle marketing, and lead nurturing in partnership with Sales and RevOps.

  • Own Product Marketing: Craft clear positioning and messaging for the Mapbox portfolio across technical and business audiences, lead GTM launches, and use market research to refine segmentation and customer resonance.

  • Elevate Brand: Evolve the Mapbox brand identity and voice to reflect innovation, scale and global impact, driving thought leadership, content, and media engagement for cohesive brand experiences across all channels.

  • Execute Hands-On: Actively contribute to campaign planning, content creation, and launch execution, uniting cross-functional teams to deliver features, customer stories, and messaging.

  • Foster Collaboration: Partner with Product, Sales, Developer Relations, and Customer Success to align messaging, timing, and strategy, using field insights and funnel performance to optimize impact.

What We Believe are Important Traits for This Role
  •  Proven B2B SaaS Marketing Leadership: 10+ years in B2B marketing, with 4+ years leading multi-function teams, scaling programs in fast-paced SaaS startups, and driving product-led growth for developer and business audiences.

  • Demand Generation & Funnel Expertise: Track record of boosting sign-ups, conversions, and revenue through integrated campaigns, demand generation, and funnel optimization, with strong skills in measuring MQL-to-SQL rates and pipeline impact aligned with sales goals.

  • Digital & Data-Driven Mastery: Deep expertise in SEO, SEM, content, email, and social media marketing, paired with proficiency in web analytics (e.g., Google Analytics), marketing automation (e.g., HubSpot, Marketo), CRM (e.g., Salesforce), A/B testing, and CRO.

  • Exceptional Leadership & Communication: Inspiring leader with strong storytelling and communication skills to influence stakeholders, convey technical concepts to developers, and drive event strategies for pipeline growth and engagement.

  • Brand & Industry Plus: Experience working with media, analysts, and agencies to amplify brand visibility and knowledge of the geospatial/mapping industry is a plus.

What We Value

In addition to our core values, which are not unique to this position and are necessary for Mapbox leaders:

  • We value high-performing creative individuals who dig into problems and opportunities.

  • We believe in individuals being their whole selves at work. We commit to this through supportive health care, parental leave, flexibility for the things that come up in life, and innovating on how we think about supporting our people.

  • We emphasize an environment of teaching and learning to equip employees with the tools needed to be successful in their function and the company.

  • We strongly believe in the value of growing a diverse team and encourage people of all backgrounds, genders, ethnicities, abilities, and sexual orientations to apply.

Our annual base compensation for this role ranges from $200,000 - $264,000 for most US locations and 5% to 10% higher for US locations with a higher cost of labor. Job level and actual compensation will be decided based on factors including, but not limited to, individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process (including skills and prior relevant experience, potential impact, and scope of role), market demands, and specific work location. Please discuss your specific work location with your recruiter for more information.

By applying for this position, you acknowledge that you agree to the Mapbox Privacy Policy which is linked here.

We are committed to a fair and equitable hiring process. We do not discriminate against any protected class.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
