HEAD OF PRODUCT MARKETING

Hey, I’m Ari Bixhorn, and I lead marketing at Outpost. I’m looking for a senior, creative, borderline-obsessive product marketer to help us lead a new category of supply chain automation.

THE SCOOP ON OUTPOST

The supply chain runs on shared infrastructure. Air cargo flows through airports, ocean freight through seaports, and rail through intermodal terminals. Yet trucking, which moves more than 70% of US freight, has never had this critical infrastructure. It runs on an inefficient patchwork of private lots, terminals, and truck stops.

Outpost is building the infrastructure that trucking never had. We own and operate a nationwide network of shared truck terminals and we build the technology platform that automates them.

That last part is why this role exists.

When we deployed our tech across our own facilities, it slashed our operating costs by 70%, improved our security, and gave us visibility into every vehicle entering and exiting. Soon, our enterprise customers started asking if we could deploy our tech at their distribution centers, warehouses, and truck terminals.

So last August, we launched Outpost Gate Automation, and in May, we released the second generation of the platform.

Our technology replaces inefficient manual processes with computer vision and AI voice agents that:

  • Identify trucks, trailers, license plates, and container seals

  • Interact with drivers in their native language

  • Decide which vehicles get in and out

  • Integrate with customers’ existing infrastructure

Outpost Gate Automation has only been in market for about a year, and yet our customers already include the nation’s largest fleets, manufacturers, shippers, and third-party logistics providers. Product demand has been overwhelming because we’re filling a major gap in the market: while warehousing operations, dock scheduling, and linehaul transportation have all been tech-enabled in the last decade, the facility gate has been a critical missing link in supply chain automation.

THE SCOOP ON THIS JOB

You’ll be Outpost’s first product marketer, tasked with building the function from the ground up. It’s a senior-level role based on the judgment and autonomy required to be successful, and it reports to me in our Seattle office.

Your mission is to drive demand and adoption for Outpost Gate Automation by ensuring our target buyers (security, operations, and IT leaders at large fleets, shippers, manufacturers, and 3PLs) understand the product and recognize us as the leader in our space.

Here’s what you’ll be responsible for:

  • Positioning and messaging: You’ll own our messaging framework, including the category story, persona-level messaging, and the evidence behind our claims.

  • Content and thought leadership: You’ll serve as marketing’s primary content producer for website content, videos, white papers, content marketing reports, etc.

  • PR, AR, and earned media: You’ll run our news beats, place bylines in trade press, build relationships with editors and industry analysts, and land executive speaking slots.

  • Sales enablement: You’ll arm a growing enterprise sales team with decks, case studies, one-pagers, battlecards, ROI tools, demo narratives, and technical drilldowns.

  • Competitive and market intelligence: You’ll track a fast-forming competitive field, maintain teardowns, and turn win/loss analysis into tighter positioning.

  • Product launches: You’ll take our new capabilities to market in partnership with our product and engineering team.

  • Social: You’ll write LinkedIn content for our company page, and coordinate the content calendar for our leadership team.

You’ll work beside our head of demand gen who runs campaigns built on your messaging, and our head of revenue operations and marketing operations who runs our systems, forecasting, and reporting. You’ll also work directly with our engineering team (also based here in Seattle), our sales team, and company leadership.

THREE REASONS YOU WANT THIS JOB

  • The breadth of ownership: As our first product marketer, you’ll own the full stack of positioning, content, PR, sales enablement, competitive intelligence, and product launches. You’ll build the product marketing discipline at Outpost from the ground up.

  • The frenetic pace: You will never have a boring day at Outpost. We move quickly, embrace the chaos of a fast-growing startup, and learn as we go.

  • The team: You’ll join a group of people who are not only wicked smaht and driven, but also down-to-earth and collaborative.

FIVE THINGS I NEED FROM YOU

  1. Enterprise B2B product marketing experience. I’ll expect you to have owned positioning, launches, compete, and sales enablement for enterprise B2B software or hardware, and to be able to run the product marketing function independently.

  2. Tech chops. You don’t need to be an engineer, but if you’ve got a CS/engineering background, that’s great. You’ll be working closely with our eng team, building cool stuff with AI, and translating tech nerdery into succinct, compelling marketing copy.

  3. Exceptional writing and presenting. Your job involves a lot of writing and will include a fair bit of presenting. As part of the interview loop, I’ll ask for short- and long-form writing samples, and I’ll want to see you deliver a great presentation.

  4. The ability to GSD. I’m looking for an execution machine who can get a lot of stuff done on their own and who isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves to crank out high-quality work.

  5. A genuine interest in what we do. You don’t need a logistics background, but you do need to find the supply chain and applied AI interesting because you’ll be living industrial gates, facilities, and operations every day.

There’s one other thing I need from you: an awesome attitude. I’m looking for someone who shares my passion for what we’re building, who stays optimistic in the face of tough business challenges, who’s comfortable with what they do and don’t know, and who knows how to detach from the day-to-day madness of the job and have fun with the team.

Sound like this might be you? Then I look forward to chatting.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
