This is a paid internship, range of $22/hr - $39/hr (depending on role and qualifications) for those currently pursuing undergraduate degrees and higher rates for those currently pursuing graduate level degrees.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Sound Transit’s Infrastructure Engineering division oversees the development and implementation of civil/structural engineering standards and technical requirements that are utilized across all modes of transportation that Sound Transit offers– Link, Sounder, ST Express, BRT, and Tacoma Link. This intern position will support the Infrastructure Engineering division by researching and gathering data to help inform the development of our engineering standards related to track, structures, drainage, utilities, and grade-crossing.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Research and gather data using SharePoint and other electronic means.
  • Read and interpret information on as-built drawings.
  • Create databases to capture information and produce reports.
  • Perform other entry-level technical/engineering tasks as necessary.

POTENTIAL PROJECTS:

  • Develop asset management database and index with GIS base systems.
  • Draft and update standard repair procedures.
  • Research and collect project data on grade crossings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must be a current college student in good academic standing, enrolled in an accredited associate, bachelor's or graduate degree program in in Civil/Structural Engineering or relevant two-year certificate. 

ADDITIONAL SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of Civil 3D or equivalent program.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment with potential field visits as needed.
  • Subject to standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting of objects up to 25 pounds; may occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery when visiting job sites during construction and when working in the field.
