We are hiring two Intermediate Systems Engineers to join our Technology team—one in a permanent, full-time capacity focused on Windows, and one in a 12-month fixed-term contract focused on Linux.

Both roles support and develop Best Buy’s IT server and storage infrastructure, including operational support and project delivery. You’ll bring deep technical expertise, a passion for automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and a drive to continuously improve our environments and practices.

We practice a remote-first working model, leveraging in-person interactions at our head office, in beautiful Vancouver, BC, for strategic, collaborative, and social purposes. 

🔷 Intermediate Systems Engineer – Windows (Permanent Full-Time)

As an Intermediate Systems Engineer, you will implement best-practice solutions and use your considerable knowledge of Windows and Storage to improve processes, automations, designs, IaC practices, and services.

What you’ll do:

  • Act as a subject matter expert and influencer for Server, Storage, Virtualization, and Cloud technologies.

  • Participate in project meetings, providing expertise on Windows and Storage infrastructure requirements and best practices.

  • Produce technical documentation and implement project requirements.

  • Support day-to-day operations with a focus on automation and monitoring.

  • Contribute to functional strategy and department vision.

  • Apply Infrastructure as Code practices and drive new models of automation and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Participate in sprint planning and help resolve technical impediments.

What we’re looking for:

  • Strong knowledge and experience with the Windows Server family

  • Strong knowledge of Storage and backup infrastructure (NetApp / PureStorage / Rubrik)

  • Proficiency with PowerShell, Git, GitOps, CI/CD, GitHub + Copilot

  • Experience writing automated deployment and configuration scripts using tools like Puppet, Ansible, Terraform, and Azure Cloud

  • Enterprise-level experience in hybrid environments (On-premises + Azure; Dell/Cisco/HPE hardware)

  • Experience with version control and bug tracking systems

  • Hands-on with Ansible/Python/Terraform/Powershell/Containers/Bash

Bonus points…

  • Exposure to Linux (RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu)

  • Certifications (Azure, VMware, Nutanix, Windows OS, automation platforms, ITIL/DevOps/Scrum)

  • Security background and certifications

  • Understanding of enterprise/solution architecture

🔷  Intermediate Systems Engineer – Linux (12-Month Fixed-Term Contract)

As an Intermediate Systems Engineer, you will use your expertise in Linux and Virtualization to drive best practice design, automation, and implementation across our server environments.

What you’ll do:

  • Act as an expert for Server, Virtualization, and Cloud technologies.

  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to design and operate best-of-breed on-prem and cloud solutions.

  • Take part in project meetings and provide expertise on Linux and virtualization infrastructure requirements and best practices.

  • Produce technical documentation and deliver infrastructure projects.

  • Support infrastructure operations with a focus on task automation and Infrastructure as Code.

  • Research, test, and implement new systems and technologies to improve efficiency and scale.

  • Merge ITIL concepts with Infra as Code practices and contribute to departmental automation evolution.

  • Participate in sprint planning and technical issue resolution.

What we’re looking for:

  • Strong knowledge and experience with Linux distributions (RedHat / CentOS / Ubuntu)

  • Strong experience with Virtualization (VMware + Azure Stack HCI / Hyper-V)

  • Proficiency with Git, GitOps, CI/CD, GitHub + Copilot

  • Experience writing automated scripts and assets with Puppet, Ansible, Terraform, and Azure Cloud

  • Experience with hybrid infrastructure (Dell/Cisco/HPE + Azure)

  • Proficiency in Ansible/Python/Terraform/PowerShell/Containers/Bash

  • Experience with version control and bug tracking systems

Bonus points…

  • Familiarity with Windows Server environments

  • Certifications in Linux OS, automation platforms, Azure, VMware, Nutanix

  • ITIL, DevOps, or Scrum Master certification

  • Security background and certifications
