CMDB Engineer

Ferguson is seeking a highly skilled CMDB Engineer to join our IT Service Management team. This role is responsible for the administration, accuracy, and automation of the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) within our ITSM platform. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise working with Device42, a passion for data quality, and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.

Location: This role is approved to be fully remote and can be based anywhere in the United States.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the CMDB Owner and Subject Matter Expert, leading the overall strategy, governance, health, and continual improvement of the CMDB.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for CMDB-related initiatives, partnering effectively with technical teams, business customers, vendors, and leadership across the organization.
  • Provide proactive, timely, and transparent communication on CMDB initiatives, issues, risks, progress, and outcomes.
  • Lead CMDB governance efforts, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, completeness, and usability of configuration items (CIs) and their relationships.
  • Design, implement, and maintain automated CMDB discovery, data collection, reconciliation, and maintenance processes using APIs, integrations, AI capabilities, and custom solutions.
  • Drive CMDB maturity by identifying data quality gaps, recommending improvements, and implementing scalable solutions.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, application, security, network, asset management, and service management teams to establish and maintain accurate service and configuration relationships.
  • Develop and support ITSM applications, integrations, workflows, and automation with external systems.
  • Provide production support, troubleshoot sophisticated issues, and lead resolution efforts related to CMDB and supporting technologies.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, standards, procedures, and governance frameworks.
  • Deliver training, mentorship, and guidance to technical teams and collaborators on CMDB standards and processes.
  • Know the latest with industry trends, ITSM standard processes, AI technologies, and emerging CMDB solutions.
  • Perform other ITSM-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • 5+ years of hands-on CMDB administration and governance experience, preferably within ServiceNow and/or Device42.
  • Demonstrated expertise in CMDB architecture, data modeling, CI relationships, service mapping, discovery, and configuration management best practices.
  • Solid experience with Device42 discovery, dependency mapping, infrastructure inventory management, and CMDB data reconciliation.
  • Experience integrating and maintaining CMDB data across ServiceNow, Device42, asset management platforms, cloud environments, and other enterprise systems.
  • Solid understanding of ITIL processes, particularly Configuration Management, Incident Management, Change Management, and Asset Management.
  • Experience designing and implementing CMDB integrations, APIs, automation solutions, and data quality controls.
  • Experience using AI technologies, including Generative AI, predictive analytics, intelligent automation, or AI agents, is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to independently lead complex initiatives, influence business customers, and get results with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, including technical teams, business leaders, and executives.
  • Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills with a customer-focused mentality and commitment to service excellence.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide regular status updates, communicate risks and issues proactively, and maintain full transparency throughout project lifecycles.
  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and technical documentation tools.
  • High degree of professionalism, accountability, adaptability, and ethical conduct.
  • Willingness to support evolving business needs, including occasional travel.

Actual pay rate may vary depending upon location. The estimated pay range for this position is below. The specific rate will depend on a candidate’s qualifications and prior experience.

$5,444.76 - $9,537.00

Estimated Ranges displayed are Monthly for Salaried roles OR Hourly for all other roles.

This role is Bonus or Incentive Plan eligible.
