Job Summary & Responsibilities

Position: Junior Graphic Designer

Wage: $23.00 to $25.00 per hour (Compensation is determined based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, with most new hires starting between the minimum and midpoint of the posted wage range)

Hours: Part-Time, Up to 25 hours per week

Location: Tacoma Association Office YMCA, Tacoma, WA


As the Junior Graphic Designer, you will serve as part of the Association's Marketing and Communications Team, in direct service to organizational departments and association-wide programs. This position is responsible for planning, designing, and producing relevant, quality design solutions with high visual impact to communicate the Y’s mission and cause. The role ensures brand stewardship of design materials, aligns consistency of delivered assets, and upholds brand standards. Media deliverables will consist of department- and association-level branding and print materials, including social media graphics, flyers, digital ads, in-center installations, and more. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or coursework in graphic design, graphic arts, visual communications, marketing, or a related field or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience (Preferred).
  • 1–2 years of graphic design experience, internships, freelance work, or portfolio-based experience (Preferred).
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Basic understanding of social media platforms and digital marketing design standards.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to accept feedback and make revisions professionally and efficiently.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Photography, Canva, video editing, or web design experience is a plus.
  • Creative and dedicated individual who embraces a diverse and collaborative team.
  • Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).
  • Committed to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, and other online and in-person training as required.

 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Design and produce marketing materials, including flyers, brochures, posters, social media graphics, email graphics, banners, presentations, and signage.
  • Assist with maintaining brand consistency across all YMCA communications and promotional materials.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications team members to execute strategy and achieve goals in print and design and on projects.
  • Prepare files for print production and coordinate with vendors when needed.
  • Edit and resize graphics, photos, and visual assets for multiple platforms and formats.
  • Assist the Senior Marketing Manager in defining and documenting project scope, goals, and deliverables for small and large marketing and communications projects that require design.
  • Embraces and actively promotes an inclusive and equitable work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
