At Tilt (formerly Empower), we see a side of people that traditional lenders miss. Our mobile-first products and machine learning-powered credit models look beyond outdated credit scores, using over 250 real-time financial signals to recognize real potential. Named among the next billion-dollar startups, we're not just changing how people access financial products — we're creating a new credit system that backs the working, whatever they're working toward.

The Opportunity: Lead Credit Manager - Payments

Tilt is searching for a strategic credit leader to optimize our payments and cash flow strategies across our Cash Advance and Thrive products. You’ll own the end-to-end strategy for autopay, retries, and cash flow–driven payment orchestration — a space with huge leverage to reduce losses, improve repayment rates, and lower transaction costs. You’ll analyze payment and paycheck data, design and test new payment strategies, and partner with Product and Engineering to implement monitoring and alerting that ensures scalable, resilient systems.

Travel for company offsites is expected at a minimum of two times a year.

How You’ll Make an Impact

Lead payment strategy development, including:

  • Define the roadmap for payments optimization across autopay, retries, and cash-flow–based repayment strategies.

  • Analyze behavioral, transactional, and paycheck forecast data to improve repayment prediction and reduce failed payments.

  • Design and execute experiments to improve timing, routing, and success rates of payments while managing transaction costs.

  • Partner with Data Science to refine our paycheck forecasting model and leverage it for dynamic payment scheduling.

Own portfolio performance & analytics infrastructure:

  • Develop and monitor KPIs for payment success rate, loss reduction, transaction costs, and customer repayment experience.

  • Build dashboards, alerting, and diagnostic tools to monitor real-time payment health and flag deviations in behavior or performance.

  • Maintain and evolve the analytics stack and pipelines supporting payments data and experimentation.

Collaborate across teams to ship high-impact solutions:

  • Work closely with Product and Engineering to implement strategies, data feeds, and decisioning systems that automate cash-flow–aware payments.

  • Partner with Finance and Data Science to size trade-offs between payment success, transaction costs, and customer experience.

  • Translate complex insights into actionable recommendations that influence leadership decisions and product roadmaps.

Shape the future of payment intelligence:

  • Develop a long-term vision for how Tilt leverages payment, paycheck, and customer behavior data to drive predictive and adaptive payment systems.

  • Collaborate with Data Science and Engineering to design real-time intelligence loops that automatically adjust payment strategies based on user cash flow and engagement.

  • Identify opportunities to integrate emerging data sources, infrastructure improvements, or modeling techniques that enhance repayment performance.

  • Champion innovation and scalability — ensuring Tilt’s payment systems remain efficient, resilient, and future-proof as we scale.

Why You’re a Great Fit
  • You’re a strong conceptual problem solver with a track record of analytical and strategic impact.

  • You have an advanced analytics toolkit (strong SQL, Python) and demonstrated ability to independently analyze complex datasets.

  • You have experience working with unstructured data, predictive models, and collaborating with data engineering / BI teams.

  • You thrive in the details where true value is found but can quickly pull up to distill insights and influence C-suite decisions.

  • You are results-driven, owning problems end-to-end and focusing relentlessly on measurable impact.

  • You’re comfortable collaborating across disciplines — credit, product, data science, and finance — to drive alignment and ship meaningful change.

  • Experience in financial services, credit, or payments preferred, but strong analytical and problem-solving ability is paramount.

Don’t meet every qualification? We care about potential over your past. If you're bringing ambition and drive to what we're building, we want to hear from you.

What you'll get at Tilt
  • Virtual-first teamwork: The Tilt team is collaborating across 14 countries, 12 time zones, and counting. You’ll get started with a WFH office reimbursement.

  • Competitive pay: We're big on potential, and it's reflected in our competitive compensation packages and generous equity.

  • Complete support: Find flexible health plans at every premium level, and substantial subsidies that stand up to global standards.

  • Visibility is yours: You can count on direct exposure to our leadership team — we’re a team where good ideas travel quickly.

  • Paid global onsites: Magic happens IRL: we gather twice yearly to reconnect over shared meals or kayaking adventures. (We’ve visited Vail, San Diego, and Mexico City, to name a few.)

  • Impact is recognized: Growth opportunities follow your contributions, not rigid promotion timelines.

The Tilt Way

We're looking for people who chase excellence and impact. Those who stand behind their work, celebrating the wins and learning from the missteps equally. We foster an environment where every voice is valued and mutual respect is non-negotiable — brilliant jerks need not apply. We're in this together, working to expand access to fair credit and prove that people are incredible. When you join us, it's not just another day at the [virtual] office, you're helping millions of hardworking people reach better financial futures.

You’re pushing ahead in your career? We can get behind that. Join us in building the credit system that people deserve.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
