About this role:
The Senior Data Scientist serves as a trusted professional that is experienced in problem-solving with real-world customer data and working directly with clients. At Cognira this role is expected to lead the design and implementation of client projects, further develop our core forecasting system, and drive the communication and interaction with customers. The expectation is that much of the Senior Data Scientist’s time is focused on feature set creation, training forecast models, forecast accuracy scorecards, and other analytical activities to support our forecasting systems. This position works under the supervision and direction of the director of data science.
What you will do:
- Provide technical leadership on client projects
- Lead data science team and stakeholders to address business challenges by harnessing structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data in a distributed processing environment
- Develop requirements, design and implement/prototype data visualization tools for internal KPIs, dashboards, analytics tools and client user interfaces
- Develop and/or configure templates, tools, and support best practices for the presentation of quantitative information to clients
- Train internal and client teams on the usage and communication of highly quantitative and analytical concepts/tools/solutions
- Present findings from analysis to the client’s business and technical team, communicating complex analysis using data visualization and business friendly metrics and terminology
- Lead design workshops to clarify and document business requirements and constraints
- Translate business requirements to science and technical teams
- Manage client delivery or support projects
- Build skills relevant to the development of retail analytics solutions and management of analytics teams and groups by taking on alternate roles and learning new processes and technologies
- Support the sales, delivery, and ongoing success of quantitative projects through the creation of templates, proposals, and case studies
- Validate quality of science development and test methodologies
- Design, develop, and program methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze unstructured, diverse data sources to generate actionable insights and solutions for client services and product enhancement.
- Design, develop, and code machine learning models and algorithms to solve retail science problems
- Develop and code software programs, algorithms and automated processes to cleanse, integrate, and evaluate large datasets from multiple disparate sources
- Prepare and deliver presentations that effectively describe complex quantitative methods through clear and concise communications
- Keep up to date with technical as well as industry developments, analytics software/tools, trends, and recognized best practices
- Work within project constraints – funding, resources, schedule, priority, goals
What you bring to the table:
- You have a four-year college degree, in statistics, economics, physics, mathematics, operations research, computer science, data engineering, or a related field
- You have 4+ years of related experience using data mining, data modeling, data integration, machine learning, statistical modeling, and other data science skills and techniques
- You have experience with Python and Jupyter notebooks, Databricks, or similar technologies, working in a remote development environment
- You have worked in a distributed development environment leveraging git and Jira.
- You have strong analytical and problem solving skills, attention to detail, critical thinking ability, and creativity
- You are able to abstract from ambiguous and sometimes conflicting information to identify opportunities for improvement and the critical business drivers and factors that influence outcomes
- You have strong knowledge of many data science techniques including: forecasting, non-linear and linear optimization, neural networks, boosted trees, regularized GLM, model agnostic explanatory techniques, and other techniques related to modeling data
- You have excellent written and verbal communication skills used to effectively communicate and present complex information in terms appropriate to the audience
- You are able to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously while balancing according to scope, budget and schedule.
Even better if:
- You have experience within the Retail industry
- 5+ years of working with retail customers supporting forecasts or inventory management
- You have a Masters or Ph.D. degree
- Experience working with Spark on large datasets.
Our Recruitment Process:
You’ll have 3-4 rounds of interviews: one with senior level management, one or two with upper level science staff, and a final meeting with our CEO. Depending on your background, we may provide you with a data science problem containing a simplified data set from which we ask you to estimate the strength of different promotions.
