Job Description:

DataRobot delivers AI that maximizes impact and minimizes business risk. Our platform and applications integrate into core business processes so teams can develop, deliver, and govern AI at scale. DataRobot empowers practitioners to deliver predictive and generative AI, and enables leaders to secure their AI assets. Organizations worldwide rely on DataRobot for AI that makes sense for their business — today and in the future.

The Lead Pre-Sales AI Solutions Engineer plays a pivotal role in helping enterprise customers see, feel, and recognize the value of agentic AI, fast. This role sits at the intersection of business understanding, AI application design, and polished product execution. The primary mission is to rapidly design and build enterprise-grade MVP (Minimum Viable Product) agentic AI applications, often within days—that clearly demonstrate how AI agents can transform real business processes.

You will partner closely with prospective customers, subject matter experts, and pre-sales team members to turn ambiguous business problems into compelling, production‑inspired prototypes. These MVPs are not throwaway demos; they are credible, extensible foundations that showcase technical depth, strong UX/UI taste, and modern AI architecture, while remaining pragmatic and fast to deliver.

Required Skills, Expertise & Experience

This role requires senior-level judgment: deep hands-on building experience, strong customer-facing intuition, and the ability to make pragmatic tradeoffs under real-world constraints.

Core Technical Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience building agentic AI applications using modern LLM frameworks and orchestration patterns.

  • Solid backend engineering skills (e.g., Python, Agent Skills, MCP, OpenAI Agents SDK, Claude Code, Cursor).

  • Experience designing and running Agent Skills, MCP servers, tool APIs, and external system integrations.

  • Familiarity with agent tracing, observability, logging, and evaluation techniques for AI applications.

Frontend & Design Taste

  • Proficiency with React and modern frontend tooling.

  • Experience using shadcn/ui or similar design systems to create clean, enterprise-ready UIs.

  • Strong UX instincts—able to simplify complex workflows and present AI behavior transparently and confidently.

Problem Solving & Communication

  • Exceptional ability to move from ambiguity to clarity quickly.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; comfortable leading technical conversations with non‑technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to explain complex AI concepts in a grounded, value‑driven, and honest way.

Education & Experience
  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, applied AI, hands-on technical consulting, or technical product roles.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience.

  • Advanced degree or research background in AI/ML is a plus, but not required.

  • Ability to travel up to 25% in average to customer meetings, workshops, industry conferences, and events.

Compensation Statement

The U.S. annual on-target earnings (OTE) range for this full-time position is between $240,000 and $280,000 USD/year. This range represents a combination of annual base pay and targeted commission. Actual offers may be higher or lower than this range based on various factors, including (but not limited to) the candidate’s work location, job-related skills, experience, and education.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
