About Atticus

At any given time, 16 million Americans are experiencing a crisis that requires urgent help from our legal system or government. The right assistance could transform their lives. But today, most never get it.

Atticus makes it easy for any sick or injured person in crisis to get the life-changing aid they deserve. In the last six years, we’ve become the leading platform connecting people with disabilities to government benefits. We also help victims of accidents, misconduct, and violence get compensation from insurance. So far, we’ve gotten thousands of people access to over $4B in life-changing aid, and we’re just getting started.

We've helped more than 110,000 people in need (see our 16,000+ five-star reviews) and raised more than $100 million from top VC firms like Fika, Forerunner, GV (Google Ventures), and True Ventures. (We closed our Series C round in April 2025, so we're well-funded for the foreseeable future.) In 2025, our team grew from 151 to 210, and we expect to grow again in 2026.

The Job

To successfully help Americans in crisis, we need to understand two audiences: 1) our clients trying to navigate a complex and scary system, and 2) our lawyers and internal teams working to provide best-in-class service. We've so far built experiences that clients love, but we need to scale these experiences to serve millions of people.

As our Lead User Researcher, you'll build a function at Atticus to deepen our understanding across all user journeys. You'll establish and champion our research practice, using sophisticated mixed-methods expertise to directly influence product decisions and business outcomes. Working independently and with minimal supervision, you'll create the systems and processes that help us systematically understand user needs and validate solutions at scale.

Your leadership will transform how the entire organization connects with our users, ensuring that as we grow, we maintain the human touch that makes Atticus special. This is a unique opportunity to shape how a fast-growing company thinks about and uses research to drive better outcomes for people in need.

Responsibilities
  • Own and lead research initiatives across the entire organization

  • Establish and manage our comprehensive research practice and repository

  • Plan and execute mixed-method research for cross-functional stakeholders

  • Build process for regular user feedback collection and synthesis

  • Develop framework for measuring and tracking UX improvements

  • Translate research insights into actionable recommendations that influence product roadmaps

  • Work independently with minimal supervision, leading research initiatives from conception to implementation

Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years experience planning, conducting, and synthesizing research

  • Proven track record of implementing and scaling research practices within organizations

  • Strong expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies

  • Experience working as a primary/solo researcher with minimal supervision

  • Proficiency with research tools such as UserInterviews.com, Maze.co, UserTesting.com, Lookback, Looker, and Qualtrics

  • Portfolio of high-impact research that directly influenced a product roadmap

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Bonus: Early-stage startup experience - complex consumer business, two-sided marketplace, and/or B2B product

Salary and Benefits

This is a rare opportunity to join a startup that has strong traction (substantial funding, well-respected backers, tremendous growth, and many happy customers) but is still small enough that you can have a huge impact and play a role in shaping our culture. We’re a certified B Corporation tackling a critical social problem. Our mission to help people in need drives everything we do, and your work here will touch many lives.

We offer competitive pay — including equity — and generous benefits:

  • Medical and dental insurance with 100% of employee premiums covered

  • 15 vacation days & ~20 paid holidays each year (including two weeks at end-of-year)

  • Free membership to OneMedical

  • $600/year reimbursable stipend for internet service

  • $1,000 reimbursable stipend for education and training outside of work

  • Up to $1,200/year student loan repayment assistance

  • 401(k) and optional HSA/FSA

  • Humble, thoughtful, smart, fun colleagues

Location

This job is fully remote and we’re committed to empowering everyone with flexibility. Work remotely, and travel to LA (on the company dime) as needed to be with your colleagues – usually quarterly, plus offsites. We care a lot about building a great culture and we think some interactions need to happen in person, so we put a lot of thought into retreats, offsites, and other ways to gather.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
