About Step

Step's mission is to improve the financial future of the next generation. Millions of people use our banking and borrowing products to manage, build, and grow their money. Now that we're part of Beast Industries – the company behind MrBeast – we're poised for a new phase of growth to deliver financial literacy and tools at massive scale.

About the Role

At Step, design is one of our biggest competitive advantages.

We're looking for an experienced Visual Designer to define and evolve how Step looks and feels across every customer touchpoint. From our product and marketing campaigns to physical cards, merchandise, social media, and brand experiences, you'll own the visual identity that makes Step instantly recognizable.

This role sits at the intersection of brand, product, and marketing. You'll work closely with Product Design, Marketing, Engineering, and Leadership to ensure every interaction with Step feels cohesive, intentional, and unmistakably ours.

We're looking for someone who obsesses over typography, color, composition, illustration, motion, and craft. Someone who can zoom out to define the visual language for an entire company, then roll up their sleeves to design the details that bring it to life.

In this role, you will:
  • Own and evolve Step's visual identity across every customer touchpoint, ensuring a cohesive experience across product, marketing, brand, and physical experiences
  • Design compelling creative for product launches, lifecycle marketing, social media posts, advertising, web, email, and other customer-facing experiences including mobile-first email templates and assets (graphics, photos, GIFs, modular blocks)
  • Produce high-impact static and motion assets for paid channels (social, search, display, CTV), following platform best practices. Iterate based on performance data and partner with media buyers to evolve and expand on what's working
  • Partner closely with Product Design to ensure our visual language is consistently expressed throughout the app and product ecosystem
  • Define, document, and maintain our brand guidelines, ensuring they evolve alongside the company while remaining easy for teams to understand and use
  • Build scalable visual systems that enable designers and marketers to create consistent work efficiently without sacrificing creativity
  • Raise the quality bar across the organization through thoughtful critique, art direction, and mentorship
  • Explore new visual directions, illustrations, motion, photography, and emerging creative trends that push the Step brand forward
  • Help define how AI can accelerate creative exploration, production, and content creation while maintaining exceptional design quality
  • Champion craftsmanship in every detail, from high-level creative direction down to the smallest production asset
You might thrive in this role if you have:
  • Significant experience designing visual identities, marketing campaigns, and digital experiences for consumer brands
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional visual craft across branding, marketing, digital products, and storytelling
  • Deep understanding of typography, layout, color, composition, illustration, photography, and motion
  • Experience building and documenting visual identity systems that scale across teams and channels
  • Strong understanding of how brand and product work together to create a cohesive customer experience
  • An exceptional eye for detail and an instinct for when something feels "almost right" versus truly polished
  • Comfortable moving fluidly between high-level creative direction and hands-on execution
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present ideas, explain creative rationale, and collaborate across disciplines.
  • Uses AI as a creative multiplier—able to rapidly explore concepts, accelerate production, and improve creative workflows without compromising quality or originality
  • Passionate about building brands people love and experiences people remember
  • Must have a portfolio featuring examples of visual identity, brand, marketing, and digital design work
Even better if you have:
  • Experience working on consumer fintech or other highly regulated consumer products
  • Experience designing physical products such as payment cards, packaging, merchandise, or environmental graphics
  • Experience with illustration, iconography, or motion design
  • Experience creating design systems or visual languages that span both product and brand
  • Experience art directing photography or video production
  • Experience building AI-assisted creative workflows or internal creative tooling

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
