Machine Learning Engineer

Truveta is the world’s first health provider led data platform with a vision of Saving Lives with Data. Our mission is to enable researchers to find cures faster, empower every clinician to be an expert, and help families make the most informed decisions about their care. Achieving Truveta’ s ambitious vision requires an incredible team of talented and inspired people with a special combination of health, software and big data experience who share our company values.

This position is based out of our headquarters in the Greater Seattle area.  #LI-hybrid

Who We Need

Truveta is building a diverse and inclusive team to tackle complex health and technical challenges. We are seeking enthusiastic new graduates who are problem-solvers, collaborative teammates, and eager to make a difference in healthcare. If you’re excited about purposeful work, joining a mission-driven team, and launching your career in a supportive environment, Truveta could be the perfect place to start.

This Opportunity

Patients, Doctors and medical researchers deserve to benefit from large scale technological innovations and digital intelligence that have driven progress in office productivity, entertainment and social networking. We are looking for ML engineers excited by the opportunity to improve health care in far-reaching ways.  If you are seeking a sense of purpose and are motivated to solve problems in learning, decision making and optimization with AI that can have a direct impact on people’s lives, then we have opportunities for you in an exciting startup environment.

We are seeking ML engineers who:

  • Have a strong understanding and experience of fundamentals of machine learning through coursework and/or prior job experience. You should be able to build and evaluate a DNN from scratch (including optimizing model size and architecture), for given data and prediction targets.
  • Strong understanding of evaluation of ML models, grounded in statistics and measurement/decision science. Precision, NPV, Recall/Sensitivity, Specificity, the tradeoffs between them, and their applicability to various prediction scenarios.
  • Strong experience fine-tuning LLMs and multi-modal models using supervised and reinforcement learning. Skilled in both third-party API/SDK-based fine-tuning and custom training on cloud-based compute clusters for application-specific tasks. Experience optimizing GPU usage for model training and inference is a big plus.
  • Experience designing reward functions or graders for Reinforcement Fine-Tuning, especially with LLMs.
  • Experience building AI agents using agentic frameworks like LangGraph or AutoGen, and ability to create end-to-end agentic AI applications from scratch. Familiarity with the latest agentic tools, frameworks, and standards (e.g., MCP, A2A). Experience designing and implementing self-improving AI agents is a big plus.
  • Have experience building and maintaining reliable, secure and scalable software solutions using modern cloud-based paradigms including CI/CD, DRI, and on-call practices.
  • Most important: Is a quick and self-driven learner who knows how to proactively seek help, iterate and evolve in a changing product landscape.

Key Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience building production ML engineering systems in a team setting.
  • 1+ years of experience working on modern cloud-native platforms and languages (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Familiarity with crafting modular APIs and building engaging and intuitive web experiences, especially agentic AI protocols such as MCP and A2A.
  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven track record of publishing in leading AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL).

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
