About the Role:

We are seeking a highly analytical and proactive Fraud Analytics Manager to establish and lead our fraud analytics function. This is a critical individual contributor role where you will be responsible for digging into historical data, identifying emerging fraud trends, and developing the strategies and rules to protect our customers. Your primary objectives in the first 6-12 months will be to analyze past fraud incidents to inform future strategy, design the next iteration of our fraud detection processes within the application flow, and proactively identify new fraud vulnerabilities and mitigation opportunities. Your work will directly contribute to reducing fraud losses and enhancing customer trust.

What You'll Do:

  • Conduct deep-dive root cause analyses on fraud events using transactional data, customer communications, application details, and PII data to understand vulnerabilities and patterns.
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain KPIs and dashboards using tools like Tableau to track performance and identify emerging trends.
  • Design, propose, and collaborate on the implementation of new fraud detection rules and strategies, partnering closely with Credit Risk, Fraud Operations, Compliance, and BSA/AML teams.
  • Explore and potentially develop predictive models or analytics to proactively identify high-risk activities or applications.
  • Analyze historical data to understand how OppFi has been impacted by fraud and build foundational knowledge for future prevention.
  • Partner with the Fraud Operations team to investigate suspicious activities flagged by your analysis and rules.
  • Collaborate with the Credit Risk team to integrate fraud rules into the underwriting process and work with other teams to address post-funding fraud detection.
  • Act as a strong cross-functional partner, considering holistic business needs and ensuring decisions align with the company's best interests.
  • Prepare and present findings, performance summaries, and strategic recommendations to various audiences, including weekly business reviews and monthly updates to senior leaders.

What You'll Need (Basic Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Data Science, or related field).
  • 3-5  years of analytics experience with 2 years of direct experience in fraud analytics or a closely related risk analytics field.
  • Intermediate proficiency in SQL for complex data extraction and manipulation.
  • Proven understanding of fraudulent practices, typologies (such as identity theft, synthetic ID, account takeover, etc.), and methodologies for detection and prevention.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to navigate ambiguous situations and draw data-driven conclusions.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Proven ability to synthesize complex information and present strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and a willingness to dive deep into data, including researching individual cases.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Related experience in the finance or fintech field.
  • Hands-on experience with Python for data analysis or modeling.
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Looker, PowerBI, or similar.
  • Experience collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams like Compliance, Credit, and Operations in a fast-paced setting.

Team & Environment:

You will report to the Senior Manager of Operations Analytics. We operate in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment where individuals are expected to wear multiple hats, embrace ambiguity, and drive results through data.

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
