Healthcare is broken at the first step: patients can't find the right care, understand what it costs, or access the medications they need. Mochi Health is fixing this.

We're building an AI-driven marketplace that makes healthcare discoverable—connecting patients to the right providers, transparent pharmacy pricing, and affordable medications. Over the past few years, we've grown rapidly by combining clinical expertise with technology that actually works for real people, not just hospital systems.

Our platform does what legacy healthcare can't: it gives patients transparent pricing before they pay, personalized medication management that follows them across providers, and long-term access to their own medical records. We're proving that healthcare can be more affordable, more human, and far more intuitive than what exists today.

Join a team that's rebuilding healthcare from the patient up. At Mochi Health, you'll work alongside people who value bold thinking, inclusive collaboration, and getting meaningful work into the world. If you want to do the most impactful work of your career, this is where to do it.

Full-time / Onsite in our San Francisco office (5 days/week)

Role Overview

The Medical Director at Mochi Medical is a high-visibility, strategic architect who bridges the gap between clinical excellence and technological innovation. You will be the primary clinical liaison for our Product, Engineering, Legal, and Marketing teams, ensuring that our proprietary EMR and patient-facing platforms are built for safety, high-integrity outcomes, and industry-leading retention. Based in our San Francisco office, you will work synchronously with a diverse team of Medical Directors to expand Mochi's footprint beyond obesity medicine into longevity, metabolic health, and specialized wellness.

Key Responsibilities1. Clinical Product Architecture (The "EMR Lead")
  • Technical Translation: Provide clinical expertise while collaborating with Engineering and Design to build clinical guardrails, automated safety checks, and intuitive workflows within the proprietary EMR.

  • Patient Engagement & Retention: Design clinical touch points and patient-facing interfaces that improve health literacy, adherence, and long-term outcomes.

  • Data-Driven Outcomes: Partner with the Data team to define and track clinical KPIs that go beyond weight loss, focusing on holistic metabolic markers and patient safety.

2. Strategic Expansion & Service Design
  • New Vertical Roadmap: Lead the clinical design for Mochi's expansion into Longevity, Dermatology, Mental Health, and Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).

  • Protocol Innovation: Synthesize emerging research into scalable, evidence-based protocols that allow Mochi to remain at the cutting edge of metabolic medicine.

  • Marketing & Growth Liaison: Provide clinical review and strategic input for marketing campaigns to ensure medical accuracy, compliance, and a strong "clinical voice" in our brand positioning.

3. Payer Strategy & Compliance
  • Insurance & Billing Advisory: Provide guidance on the build-out of our insurance program, ensuring that clinical documentation standards support E&M billing and CMS program integration.

  • CMS Program Development: Lead the design and implementation of CMS-aligned programs, including the development of value-based care frameworks, quality reporting structures, and reimbursement strategies that position Mochi for sustainable payer relationships.

  • Compliance Frameworks: Collaborate with the Legal and Pharmacy teams to ensure all new treatment models meet rigorous state and federal regulatory standards for telemedicine, including applicable FDA guidelines governing prescription therapies and digital health solutions.

4. Collaborative Leadership & Synergy
  • The "Medical Cabinet": Work cohesively within a team of Medical Directors, bringing your unique background to a collaborative "brain trust" that ensures a unified clinical strategy across the organization.

  • Cross-Functional Presence: Be the "on-the-ground" clinical expert for the San Francisco HQ, providing immediate, high-level clinical guidance to non-clinical departments (Legal, HR, Finance, Ops).

Qualifications & ExperienceClinical Credentials
  • Education: MD or DO from an accredited medical school. MBA, MPH, or MHA is strongly preferred.

  • Certifications: Board Certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Endocrinology. ABOM (American Board of Obesity Medicine) certification is a plus.

  • Licensing: Active, unrestricted medical license required. California licensure is preferred; candidates who are eligible and willing to obtain a California license will be strongly considered. Multi-state or Compact license is a plus.

Strategic & Technical Expertise
  • Product-Minded Leadership: 5+ years of clinical practice with experience in a "tech-first" or startup environment.

  • CMS & Payer Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in designing and implementing CMS programs, including value-based care initiatives, quality reporting, and reimbursement optimization strategies.

  • FDA Regulatory Knowledge: Working expertise in FDA regulations as they pertain to prescription therapeutics, compounded medications, and/or digital health, with the ability to translate regulatory requirements into actionable clinical and operational guidance.

  • Payer Landscape Knowledge: Demonstrated some understanding of medical coding, billing compliance, and the intricacies of the US payer system.

  • Collaborative Spirit: A "team-first" mentality with a track record of working effectively alongside other physician leaders to achieve a common goal.

Who You Are
  • The Clinical Visionary: You see beyond current trends to where the future of metabolic health is headed.

  • The System Builder: You enjoy the "how" as much as the "why", building the digital infrastructure that makes great care possible.

  • The Regulatory Navigator: You are fluent in the regulatory landscape, from FDA frameworks to CMS program design, and you translate that fluency into practical strategy that keeps Mochi ahead of the curve.

  • The Culture Catalyst: You thrive in an office environment, enjoying the spontaneous collaboration and high-energy pace of a scaling startup HQ.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
