LightEdge Solutions is looking for experienced technical individuals for our IBM AIX– Midrange Engineer position! As a part of the LightEdge Solutions team, you will be accountable for understanding client business and technical requirements, technical design based on best practices, solution implementation, documentation and communication with your team and client. Candidate must have at least 3-5 years’ hands-on experience in working and supporting IBM Power environment and related networking equipment. Primarily responsible for the maintenance and administration of Power (AIX servers,, multiple partitions), including message handling, command line utilities, work management, job and print control, device management, system configuration and security setups, backup and restore, client access application, external process and/or file transfer integration, and PTFs management. Also knowing and supporting TCP/IP networking are required. Experience with replication or HA software like MIMIX or iTera. Power HA etc is required.
 

Responsibilities

  • Design, Implement and support various aspects of the AIX platform
  • Maintain and deploy any required operating system upgrades and PTF installations
  • Design, maintain IBM AIX backups utilizing BRMS, FullSystemFlashCopy, and VTL
  • Knowledge to setup BRMS software and enterprise tape library architecture (save/restore) Intermediate level
  • Knowledge of Mimix replication software, or similar software experience, is required
  • Knowledge of Help Systems tools such as CCSS, Robot Scheduler, Robot Alert, Nagios or similar software is required – any other 3rd party tools
  • Perform Tuning and Capacity planning as required for all IBM AIX Systems/Logical Partitions
  • Provide Tier-3 support for operations and applications teams where possible
  • Task oriented, capable of managing multiple work streams while maintaining focus on results
  • Provide 3rd tier support for escalated issues regarding customer systems
  • Ability to communicate clearly in a large enterprise environment
  • Able to support 24/7 on-call-Perform basic hardware maintenance activities
  • Understand and recommend IBM AIX system and user security
  • Provide technical support, training and direction to NOC staff and other team members
  • Configure partitions and systems using the Hardware Management Console (HMC) through traditional HMC and Virtual HMC
  • Interface to vendor support organization(s) and work through problem resolution

Education and Experience

  • Knowledge of AIX system administration and troubleshooting.
  • Engineer must have 2-3 years’ experience supporting IBM AIX environments
  • Knowledge of AIX High Availability setup, configuration and administration of MIMIX, iTerra, etc
  • Experience with PowerVM and VIOS a plus for future designs
  • Experience with PowerVC as well as Live partition mobility a plus
  • Proficient in LPAR design, build and validation (Logical Partitioning) a plus
  • Proficient in planning and upgrading the AIX operating system (AIX) and HMC/Firmware
  • Proficient in IBM AIX work management
  • Knowledge of network protocols and troubleshooting skills.  IBM AIX TCP/IP configuration and NETSTAT troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of AIX networked systems, access and security guidelines and procedures.
  • Skill in solving technically challenging problems involving AIX based critical applications and hardware issues.
  • Skill in prioritizing and balancing multiple tasks.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other LightEdge employees.
  • Skill in providing excellent customer service.
  • Skill in working in a teamwork environment.
