About Slate

At Slate, we’ve got one job: building a vehicle you’ll fall in love with, right here in the USA. We believe that car buyers—not car companies—should call the shots. We like looking at a road, not a screen. We don’t like paying for stuff we don’t need.
We like picking out the stuff we do need. We think dings are badges, not blemishes. But we know not everyone likes what we like. So, we built you a Slate: you make it yours.

Who we are looking for:

What you get to do:

  • You code and test system components, leading code and design reviews.
  • You own end-to-end code quality, system tests, functional tests, and integration.
  • You relentlessly simplify, demonstrating significant innovation, creativity, and judgement when solving challenging problems.
  • You collaborate with UX and product teams to build and invent new solutions and applications that put customers first.
  • You are considered an authority on technical issues by the technical and business community and are frequently consulted for making difficult trade-off decisions.
  • You drive awareness about the impact and consequences of technical decisions on the business, balancing technical leadership with strong business judgment to make the right long-term decisions about technology choices.
  • You assist in the career development of others, actively mentoring individuals and the community on advanced technical issues and helping managers guide the career growth of their team members.

What you bring to the team:

  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.  We are unable to financially sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for this opportunity currently.
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.

  • 4+ years of programming experience with at least one modern language.
  • 2+ years of professional experience developing a consumer-facing production mobile application.
  • 2+ years of professional experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
  • 2+ years of professional experience with the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience.
  • 1+ years of experience developing React Native applications is preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience developing web applications with Next.js is preferred.

And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
