Job Description

SUMMARY

The Mortgage Loss Mitigation Underwriting Manager oversees and directs the Loss Mitigation process for the financial institution, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and investor guidelines. This position will manage a team of Loss Mitigation specialists and Vendors to develop and implement strategies to reduce financial risk and collaborate with other departments to achieve organizational goals.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

The Mortgage Loss Mitigation Underwriting Manager will manage the daily operations of the overall Loss Mitigation department which will include any Vendors that we may engage.  They will be responsible for the whole Loss Mitigation Underwriting process to include all the front-end functions of Loss Mitigation accomplished internally or with the use of vendors. This position will have the responsibility for holistically managing the entire Loss Mitigation underwriting operation using both internal and external resources to ensure an efficient, compliant process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership:

Managing, and developing the Loss Mitigation team and its Vendors to integrate the functions into an effective Loss Mitigation process.

  • Strategy Development:

Developing and implementing comprehensive Loss Mitigation strategies that align with business objectives and regulatory requirements. 

  • Risk Management:

Implementing strategies to actively mitigate company losses by providing early intervention of identified potential risks to remediate issues before they escalate. 

  • Policy Development:

Develop and periodically update the Loss Mitigation policies and procedures. 

  • Compliance:

Responsible for compliance with regulatory requirements, investor guidelines, and internal policies. 

  • Customer Relations:

Addressing customer issues and complaints related to Loss Mitigation. 

  • Collaboration:

Working with the rest of the Servicing platform to streamline processes and improve efficiency. 

  • Performance Management:

Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) and providing regular feedback to team members. 

  • Budgeting:

Develop and manage the loss mitigation budget. 

  • Training:

Providing training to team members on new policies, procedures, and systems. 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or a related field. 
  • Experience: Several years of experience in loss mitigation and underwriting required
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of financial principles, mortgage lending, loss mitigation processes. 
  • Skills: Leadership, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Regulations: Familiarity with federal and state regulations, investor guidelines, and internal policies. 
  • Software: Proficiency in MSP, Resolve, SMDU and other Loss Mitigation Applications.
  • Customer Service: Ability to effectively communicate with and work with diverse stakeholders
