SCT is seeking a Communications Specialist to join our team at NASA’s Office of the Chief Human Capital Officer (OCHCO). The Specialist shall assist OCHCO in the continual development and sharing of communication tools and products for current and future Human Capital functions and projects that support the ongoing work within the HC line of business across the OCHCO enterprise.
The Communication Specialist must have detailed knowledge of marketing, communication strategies, and channels of communication, as well as expertise in written and verbal communication to understand the essentials of sound communication strategy advice, and to build and present varied, integrated, and effective products.
The position is badged to NASA HQ in Washington, DC but will be performed remotely.
Duties
- Understanding overarching goals of the OCHCO organization and gathering and understanding stakeholder and employee feedback to build and implement a strong communication strategy and platform.
- Working with subject matter experts on strategy development, project management, planning, content creation, implementation, multi-media delivery and collection of feedback.
- Maintaining, editing, and adding content to OCHCO's presence on the external NASA website and the internal OneNASA website, which includes coordination with multiple subject matter experts at any given time.
- Developing coordinated, multilayered, and multimedia communication strategies to implement new HC programs and manage change with leadership and customers (i.e., message content, OneNASA/SharePoint site images and content, video, project/timeline management, visual information/displays like infographics, logos, posters, branded templates, programs and other support).
- Providing recommendations of communication strategies that leverage technology and acknowledge cultural or structural conditions, as well as the paths to effectively distribute communications and means to effectively deliver the message (e.g., facilitated virtual meetings, videos, newsletters, written messages, MS Teams environments and updates, training sessions, or strategic illustrations conveying intent/relationships).
- Drafting communication products with an emphasis on visual communication and plain language to ensure optimal reach and comprehension for a range of audiences.
- Creating communication products and concept documents to help understand, articulate, and communicate leadership values, vision, and direction to internal and external stakeholders. This may include the creation of images and/or graphics.
- Disseminating information through the creation of a wide range of products, such as training materials, desk guides, operating procedures, executive talking points, reports, policy updates, graphs, presentations and other materials, and virtual collaboration services for various initiatives.
- Utilizing the HR Messaging system to write and send messages to the NASA workforce.
- Develops processes, timelines, milestones, or project plans for stakeholder review that deliver communication expectations and objectives for information, campaigns, stories, and presentations.
- Manages communication archives and communications-related templates.
- Executes general project management support.
- May include occasional travel.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Marketing, or appropriate area of specialization plus 1 -2 years of related experience
- Minimum 1 year of consulting experience preferred
- Detailed knowledge of marketing, communication strategies, and channels of communication
- MS Office desktop applications: Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, Excel
- Computer graphics applications: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
- Strong work ethic with excellent organizational and inter-personal skills
- Self-starter with demonstrated leadership and team-building capabilities
- Ability to interact professionally with clients
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
