National Accounts Regional Sales Manager — North East Region

Location: Remote / field-based — must reside within the assigned territory

Territory: Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia, District of Columbia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

Travel: 60%, including regular overnight travel

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Drive sales growth and execute Clearfield’s National Accounts commercial strategy across assigned Tier 1 and Tier 2 telecom providers and national MSOs in the North East region.

This is a field-based, high-travel role. The Regional Sales Manager is Clearfield’s primary in-person presence for designated accounts in the territory — building multilevel relationships, uncovering localized opportunities, and driving consistent pull-through through direct engagement, authorized distribution, and private label partnerships — while executing the strategic direction set by the National Account Managers and National Accounts leadership.

TERRITORY AND TRAVEL

We are looking for someone who already lives in the territory and knows the region well. Because the role depends on being close to our customers, we are focusing our search on candidates based in the assigned states, and relocation assistance is not available for this position.

  • Home base within the assigned territory, ideally within a reasonable drive of a major commercial airport.
  • Travel runs about 60% — a mix of drive time within the region and air travel to customer headquarters, deployment sites, and industry events, with regular overnight stays.
  • This is a hands-on field role. Most of the week is spent in front of customers and out in the region rather than at a desk, so we are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys being on the road.
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead regional sales activity within assigned national telecom and MSO accounts, keeping it aligned with the broader account strategy.
  • Execute the strategic direction set by the National Account Managers, translating account-level plans into actionable regional activity.
  • Maintain a steady field presence across the territory — regional offices, warehouses, central offices, distribution branches, and active job sites.
  • Serve as the primary field contact for key decision-makers and influencers within assigned customer locations across Tier 1 / Tier 2 telcos and MSOs.
  • Build multilevel relationships spanning engineering, outside plant, construction, operations, supply chain, and procurement to uncover both project-level and programmatic opportunities.
  • Conduct proactive territory prospecting, cold calling, and account mapping to grow Clearfield’s footprint within each account.
  • Deliver value-based sales presentations and proposals tailored to each customer’s network architecture and deployment strategy.
  • Partner with authorized distribution and channel partners to drive pull-through, and help maintain Clearfield’s position on approved vendor and material lists.
  • Support deal closure and post-sale follow-up, ensuring a seamless customer experience and long-term relationship success.
  • Provide accurate and timely CRM updates on all sales activity, pipeline development, and customer interactions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Management, Engineering, and Customer Experience to ensure solutions meet customer technical and operational requirements.
  • Stay current on fiber broadband technologies, regulatory drivers, funding programs, and deployment trends relevant to telecom and MSO markets.
  • Represent Clearfield at customer meetings, industry events, trade shows, and field installations.

This description of duties is not intended to be all-inclusive or to limit the discretionary authority to assign other tasks of a similar nature or level of responsibility.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five or more years of outside sales experience, with a track record of meeting or exceeding quota in a field-based territory role.
  • Lives within the assigned territory.
  • Comfortable with a travel schedule of roughly 60%, including overnight travel.
  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships and influence stakeholders across engineering, operations, and procurement.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship management skills.
  • Proficiency with CRM platforms and sales pipeline management tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Broadband experience is highly preferred — we are especially interested in candidates who have sold into FTTH, fiber connectivity, or broadband network deployments.
  • Working knowledge of Tier 1 and Tier 2 telecom and MSO organizational structures, procurement processes, and regional deployment models.
  • Experience selling through authorized distribution and channel partners in support of national account strategies.
  • Familiarity with outside plant construction practices, fiber deployment methods, and materials specification cycles.
  • Existing relationships with telecom or MSO decision-makers in the West region.
  • Experience supporting private label or OEM partnership programs.

COMPETENCIES

Account Management - Building long-term, value-based relationships with large accounts, penetrating them for further business, and maximizing the revenue they generate while reducing the time and cost of managing them.

Impact and Influence - Influencing and gaining the support of others.

Networking - Establishing, sustaining, and fostering professional contacts to build, enhance, and connect networks for work purposes.

Collaborating with Others - Working with others in a cooperative and supportive manner to achieve shared goals.
