Own and evolve Argo Workflows and Argo Events, make major architectural decisions, and build Pipekit’s enterprise control-plane product. The role includes shaping the roadmap, shipping customer-focused features, engaging with open-source contributors and customers, participating in an on-call rotation, and speaking at cloud-native conferences. Candidates should have strong statically typed programming skills, Kubernetes expertise, production-systems experience, excellent written communication, and a self-directed, customer-focused approach.

Who We Are

Hi! We’re Pipekit, and we’re building the software infrastructure that powers modern data and AI systems. As the primary maintainers of the open-source Argo Workflows project, we advance Kubernetes-native workflow computing - pushing the performance, scalability, and reliability of distributed systems.

We work directly with some of the largest Argo users in the world, supporting mission-critical deployments at organizations like Absci, Bloomberg, Intuit, Tensordyne, and Centrica Energy. The learning from these relationships drive upstream improvements to the runtime and help us develop our proprietary enterprise control plane.

Why Join Pipekit?

We're growing fast: Four of the largest financial and fintech institutions in the Americas trust us with their most critical systems, and Pipekit is #1 in the Argo ecosystem for commits landed over the past six months.

We’re remote-first: Work from anywhere between the US East Coast and Eastern European time zones, including their Southern Hemisphere equivalents.

We’re innovating at the edge: Work on cutting edge open source Kubernetes native workflow orchestration trusted by teams at CERN, NASA, and many others.

What You’ll Do
  • Own and drive impact across our product and the open source Argo ecosystem.

  • Maintain and evolve Argo Workflows and Argo Events, managing both PRs and major architectural decisions.

  • Build and shape our enterprise product with a premium developer experience at its core.

  • Turn ideas into features: Help shape our roadmap, identify user pain points, and ship critical features.

  • Engage with the community: Talk to customers, collaborate with OSS contributors, and be part of an on-call rotation (mostly during working hours).

  • Speak at conferences like KubeCon and ArgoCon, and help expand our voice across the cloud-native world.

What Makes You a Great Fit

We're looking for T-shaped engineers: deep in one area, ideally distributed systems, and broad across many.

Must-haves:

  • Strong programming skills in a statically typed language, such as Go, Java, Rust, or C++

  • Solid understanding of Kubernetes

  • You’re a self-starter who can take a rough idea and drive it to completion

  • Passion for building production-grade systems and working cross-functionally

  • Excellent written communication, whether GitHub comments, docs, or blog posts

  • Customer-first mindset, with a focus on delivering real value

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with Go microservices, TypeScript/React, or Python

  • Experience managing cloud services, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP

  • OSS maintenance experience, contributing code, and engaging with the community

How you work:

  • You balance shipping fast with maintaining code quality. You won't spend weeks perfecting something that could ship this week, but you also won't skip critical architecture reviews.

  • You’re driven by outcomes, not just output

  • You love shipping software that solves real problems

  • You’re endlessly curious, always learning, and love leveling up your skills

What You’ll Get
  • Competitive compensation, adjusted to leveling and geography

  • Pipekit equity plan

  • Fully remote, with optional co-working space access

  • Learning and development budget

  • $500 equipment budget

We strongly encourage people from underrepresented backgrounds to apply, even if you don't meet every qualification. Research shows women and underrepresented groups often don't apply unless they check every box. But we'd love to hear from you if you're interested and have most of the skills we're looking for. Diverse perspectives make us better.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
