Product Manager III, OTR Core Payments & Experience

WEX is an innovative payments and technology company focused on simplifying the business of running a business for our customers. We are seeking a Product Manager III to join our Digital organization and support the evolution of our core Over-the-Road (OTR) payments platform. This role is essential in modernizing foundational capabilities, strengthening customer experience, and delivering reliable, scalable solutions across WEX’s OTR ecosystem.

About the Role & Strategic Impact

As a PM3, you will own well-defined product areas within OTR’s core capabilities—such as payment processing, card controls, discounting, card-present innovation, MoneyCodes, data access, authorization services, or platform stability. You will translate customer needs and business requirements into clear outcomes, working closely with Engineering and cross-functional partners to deliver features that improve reliability, usability, and efficiency for fleets, merchants, and internal teams.

You will not yet be expected to drive segment-level strategy, but you will influence it by providing insights, owning execution, and ensuring products move from concept to delivery with clarity and momentum.

How You’ll Make an ImpactProduct Ownership & Execution
  • Own a core OTR capability or product area end-to-end—from discovery to delivery to ongoing iteration.

  • Develop clear requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria for engineering teams.

  • Manage and prioritize the backlog, ensuring roadmap items align with OTR business priorities and customer outcomes.

  • Use data, user feedback, and operational insights to identify issues, propose improvements, and validate decisions.

  • Support development of business cases and success metrics while monitoring performance post-launch.

Customer Understanding & Insights
  • Build a deep understanding of OTR customers, operational workflows, and partner needs.

  • Conduct discovery with internal teams, customers, and merchants to understand pain points and opportunities.

  • Connect qualitative insights with quantitative data to make balanced, customer-centered decisions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner closely with Engineering, UX, Analytics, Operations, and other PMs to deliver reliable and intuitive products.

  • Ensure stakeholders are informed with crisp communication and regular updates on progress, risks, and outcomes.

  • Work collaboratively to solve cross-team problems, reduce friction points, and enable seamless integration across systems.

  • Participate actively in PI planning, discovery sessions, and quarterly business reviews.

Delivery Leadership
  • Lead 1 scrum team (occasionally 2) toward a shared mission, ensuring clarity of goals and alignment on priorities.

  • Break down complex problems into actionable steps and help remove roadblocks to keep work moving.

  • Ensure shipped work is high-quality, compliant, and adds measurable value to customers or internal users.

Learning & Growth Mindset
  • Demonstrate curiosity and initiative in gaining domain expertise in payments, fleet operations, discounting, and OTR systems.

  • Bring external best practices and modern product techniques into your work.

  • Continuously refine your craft in product discovery, delivery, and stakeholder communication.

Experience You’ll Bring
  • 4+ years of experience as a Product Manager or in a similar role within a software or payments organization.

  • Undergraduate degree required.

  • Experience writing clear product requirements and working directly with engineering teams in an agile environment.

  • Ability to manage a roadmap, prioritize trade-offs, and break down ambiguous problems into structured work.

  • Strong analytical mindset; comfortable using data to size opportunities, diagnose issues, and measure outcomes.

  • Experience with API-based products, platform capabilities, or financial systems is a strong plus.

  • Familiarity with mobile, cloud, or payment-related technologies is beneficial.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What Success Looks Like
  • Delivering high-quality enhancements and new capabilities that strengthen WEX OTR’s payment platform.

  • Building trusted partnerships across Engineering, Operations, and other PM teams.

  • Demonstrating clear ownership, reliability, and ability to execute against defined outcomes.

  • Showing readiness to take on broader strategy elements as part of future growth into a PM4 or Lead PM role.

And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
