Position Responsibilities:
- Obtain work package from ready-to-work rack, delivered to workstation, assigned by supervisor/team lead, or run previously set-up job by reviewing prior operator tie-in.
- Review Work Order (W/O), drawings, Boeing (BAC) specifications, templates, and other necessary documents to determine job requirements, verify parts/materials, and ensure prior operations are complete.
- Check machine setup, parts completed by previous operator, and ensure safe working conditions.
- Select, attach, and verify machine accessories, holding devices (e.g., ram heads, riser stands, blocks, clamps, shims), tools, dies, fixtures, and shop aids; fabricate shop aids as required.
- Move parts/materials safely using overhead cranes, electric stackers, pallet jacks; ensure spreader bars are safely attached for long parts/materials; request assistance as needed.
- Layout and mark reference points and center lines prior to forming/straightening; verify accuracy with operators if necessary.
- Set up and operate press cycles using manual power switch to adjust height, poundage, and stroke; verify die temperature using temperature sticks and/or pyrometers; select and plug in heating elements for hot dies.
- Insert material to be formed and/or straightened; cycle press and make adjustments as required.
- Clean and deburr parts after forming/straightening using appropriate tools (e.g., hand files, dotco, denatured alcohol); inspect parts after each operation to ensure completeness and defect-free quality; perform rework per Pick Up, Special Repair, Rejection Tag, Non-Conformance Record, or other authorized instructions.
- Contact supervisor/team leader or Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assistance or problem resolution; consult with engineering, planning, inspection, or customer as needed.
- Initiate planning or engineering change requests for pre-planned jobs.
- Handle and dispose of hazardous materials (e.g., solvents, rags) in approved manner; maintain personal and tool certifications.
- Analyze production requirements and prioritize work based on list, schedule, and shop constraints.
- Provide On-The-Job Training (OJT) on tool use, part straightening techniques, and processes.
- Perform forming and finishing operations on heavy extrusions and complex parts, including:
a. Troubleshoot forming problems (e.g., part twisted, bowed, out of contour) and coordinate part finishing work.
b. Perform or assist in tool configuration setup (e.g., locate header, tool pin).
c. Form contours and angles on heavy extrusions (e.g., wing chords, T chords, crown frames) using hydraulic press per tool and drawing specifications.
d. Check contour, angularity, and flatness using precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, protractors, feeler gauges) and shop aids (e.g., straight edge, go/no-go gauge, sand bags).
e. Remove surface blemishes (e.g., scratches, gouges, nicks, dents) using shop aid blocks, hammers, sandpaper, Scotch-Brite, or as per Material Review Board (MRB) disposition.
f. Improvise setups and tooling as needed to accomplish work assignments.
g. Work on heavy extrusions partially or completely machine formed before or after heat treat.
h. Use and interpret blueprints, engineering changes, work orders, and templates.
Physical Demands and Potential Hazards:
- Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.
- Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.
- Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.
- Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.
- Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.
- Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties.
