As a Principal Architect at JPMorganChase within the Commercial & Investment Bank(Payments Technology), you provide deep domain expertise to design and evolve architecture platforms that power global eCommerce payment solutions. You will partner with business and technology leaders to shape the digital transformation of merchant acquiring capabilities — spanning online checkout experiences, payment gateway architecture, partner integrations, and developer-facing APIs. Leverage your advanced architecture capabilities and collaborate with colleagues across the organization to drive best-in-class outcomes for merchants and clients worldwide.

Job responsibilities

  • Advise cross-functional business and technology stakeholders on design approaches, technology selection, and target state architecture to meet the evolving demands of global eCommerce merchant payment platforms
  • Develop multi-year roadmaps aligned with eCommerce payment strategy, including online checkout optimization, payment gateway modernization, digital onboarding, client self-service, and developer experience
  • Apply enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within the work environment to accelerate architecture analysis, roadmap development, and design decisioning, with human-in-the-loop validation and appropriate handling of sensitive data
  • Define strategy and technical delivery roadmaps for eCommerce product go-to-market, translating complex merchant acquiring requirements into scalable, cloud-native architecture decisions
  • Establish reuse-first, AI-enabled engineering patterns and governance across the software development lifecycle and toolchain practices, ensuring traceability, auditability, resiliency, and security controls
  • Participate in architecture governance bodies, evaluating recommendations and providing feedback on eCommerce business needs and options to accelerate time to market
  • Lead evaluation sessions with external vendors, payment technology startups, and internal teams to assess architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability within the eCommerce payments ecosystem
  • Identify opportunities to modernize eCommerce platform capabilities, eliminate recurring issues, and automate remediation to improve overall operational stability and merchant experience
  • Present and communicate eCommerce architecture strategies, decisions, and roadmaps effectively to senior leaders and executives

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on architecture concepts and 10+ years applied experience
  • Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability within eCommerce or merchant acquiring payment environments
  • Deep knowledge of eCommerce payment flows, including online checkout, payment gateway architecture, tokenization, fraud prevention, and merchant integration patterns
  • Strong experience with web developer frameworks, web architecture, mobile frameworks, and API standards — including RESTful and event-driven design — specific to eCommerce payment platforms
  • Strong experience with identity and access management, including secure partner integration via APIs and web-based authentication frameworks within payment ecosystems
  • Demonstrated experience applying enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within architecture and engineering workflows, with strong validation habits and awareness of data sensitivity
  • Experience leading a product as a product owner or product manager, including defining eCommerce business capabilities, feature taxonomies, and technical delivery roadmaps
  • Deep knowledge of software, applications, and architecture disciplines including cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and mobile within a payments context
  • Ability to present and effectively communicate complex eCommerce architecture concepts to senior leaders and executives

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Strong experience delivering ecommerce merchant payments and value added solutions within acquiring space.

  • Strong understanding of various eCommerce clients such as submitters, aggregators, payment facilitators and marketplaces.

  • Strategic mindset in acquiring payments business -includes value added services for optimizing payments, risk, vault, token for Ecommerce use cases.

  • Experience with in-store or omnichannel payment architectures that complement eCommerce platforms and partner integration patterns.

  • Familiarity with payment industry standards and compliance frameworks relevant to eCommerce (e.g., PCI-DSS, 3DS, encryption, Open Banking)
