The Principal Architect will define and drive the technical architecture for our next-generation technology. This role shapes the foundational systems that enable the successful execution of our product. This role will partner closely with the engineering, product, and security leadership team to translate business strategy and core patents into a cohesive, modern, cloud-native architecture that supports enterprise-grade reliability and rapid innovation.
This role reports to the VP, Engineering & Technical Architect.

Salary Range
The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $178,000 - $240,000 (flexibility based on experience) plus benefits as described below. In addition, the successful candidate will be eligible to receive other compensation from time to time in the form of discretionary and/or nondiscretionary bonuses and long-term incentive plan. Actual compensation will be influenced by a candidate's qualifications, internal employee equity considerations, and location. We will not ask for information about a candidate's current or past compensation for purposes of developing an offer of employment.
US team members (and their spouses, domestic partners, and/or dependent children) are covered by generously subsidized medical, dental, and vision insurance which includes company contributions to a Health Savings Accounts. Team members are also covered by company-paid life and disability insurance and have the option of participating in employee-paid supplemental life, accidental death and dismemberment, critical illness, and accident insurance. In addition, team members can enroll in the company's 401(k) plan with up to a 5% match. You receive 15 days of paid vacation yearly, increasing to 20 days after one year. Additionally, you get 5 days of paid sick leave, 13 paid holidays, and 20 weeks of paid parental leave for birthing parents, 12 weeks for others. Also, there's an opportunity for tuition reimbursement for qualifying expenses.

What You'll Do
- Define the end-to-end architecture for Identity Digital Innovation Labs' technical platform, spanning DNS-based identity, domain lifecycle systems, APIs, data flows, and cloud infrastructure.
- Lead architectural strategy for new platform capabilities, including agent identity, certificate automation, and developer-facing services.
- Partner with product leadership to translate business requirements into scalable, secure, and extensible technical designs.
- Establish architectural standards, patterns, and guardrails that guide engineering teams across services, languages, and deployment environments.
- Evaluate and select technologies, frameworks, and cloud services that accelerate delivery while maintaining operational excellence.
- Provide deep technical mentorship to engineering teams, elevating technical design quality, system reliability, and long-term maintainability.
- Engage hands-on with code reviews and contribute to development as needed to maintain close technical involvement with the platform.
- Collaborate with DevOps, SRE, and Security teams to ensure platform resilience, observability, and compliance with best practices.
- Participate in on-call rotation and operational processes, owning the architecture and tooling critical to smooth platform operations.
- Lead technical design reviews, threat modeling, and architectural assessments for new and existing systems.
- Drive modernization initiatives, including migration to cloud-native architectures, event-driven systems, and API-first workflows.
- Represent engineering in cross-functional discussions with product, operations, and executive stakeholders.
- Actively model and promote Identity Digital's core values through day-to-day interactions, behaviors, and decision-making.

Who You Are / What You Bring
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, or architecture roles, including senior-level technical leadership.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience architecting large-scale, distributed, cloud-native systems (AWS/GCP preferred).
- Deep expertise in modern backend technologies (Go, Python, TypeScript/Node) and API design.
- Knowledge of front-end frameworks such as React (strong asset).
- Strong understanding of DNS, identity systems, PKI, certificate management, and secure communication protocols.
- Experience designing event-driven architectures, microservices, and high-availability systems.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, Terraform, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Strong grounding in security architecture, authentication/authorization models, and data protection.
- Working knowledge, or greater, of AI concepts and a desire to learn more
- A desire to create a new product category in the Agentic ecosystem
- Ability to influence and guide engineering teams without direct authority.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.
- Ability to work effectively across time zones as part of a global organization.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Reliable transportation to the workplace.
