The Emerging Experiences team is a senior design group focused on shaping what is next for GM's digital ecosystem. The team works ahead of roadmap execution, exploring new interaction models, technologies, and customer behaviors across web, mobile, and intelligent experiences. As a Principal Designer, you will define future-facing experience paradigms through concept work, prototyping, and interaction frameworks that influence long-term product and brand direction. This role blends hands-on design craft with strategic leadership and close collaboration with product, engineering, marketing, and research partners.

What You'll Do
- Lead exploration and definition of future digital experience paradigms across web and mobile platforms.
- Create north-star concepts, interaction models, and prototype experiences that inform GM's long-term digital strategy.
- Establish experience frameworks and design patterns that product teams can evolve into production systems.
- Define experiential language, interaction principles, and storytelling approaches for emerging digital journeys.
- Partner closely with product, engineering, research, and marketing teams to validate concepts through experimentation.
- Guide and influence cross-functional teams by translating emerging technologies and behaviors into actionable design direction.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 15+ years of experience in digital product and experience design, including senior or principal-level roles.
- Proven experience leading concept-driven, future-facing design work across web and mobile platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to define interaction models, experience architectures, and design frameworks at a system level.
- Advanced proficiency with digital design and prototyping tools commonly used for concept and interaction development.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas clearly to senior and executive stakeholders.

- Experience working in an advanced, exploratory, or innovation-focused design team.
- Background in integrating emerging technologies such as automation, intelligence, or new input modalities into digital experiences.

- Proven ability to mentor senior designers and elevate design quality across teams.
- Experience operating within large, matrixed organizations with distributed teams.
Compensation:
- The expected base compensation for this role is: ($265,400-407,100). Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
