About the Role:

The GovCloud Federal IT Operations team is rapidly growing, entering new markets and adding innovative new features to our products while expanding our product line in support of our federal customers and internal federal teams.

We are seeking a top-performing Principal Enterprise Architect to join us on the journey of modernizing and streamlining our delivery in the digital world, with a focus on design, implementation, and maintenance of an organization's information systems and technological infrastructure. In this role, you will work hands-on in helping shape the future direction of GovCloud and its long-term strategy.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Enterprise Architect to serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for cloud and on-premise infrastructure strategy, design, specifications, and implementations to ensure performance, reliability, and security of enterprise applications and systems.

We are looking for a self-starter with a strong technical background and the ability to methodically assess, prioritize and solve complex problems in the GovCloud space. You demonstrate attention to detail and focus on excellent customer-centric solutions. The ability to tackle an independent work stream and drive progress is key.

What You'll Do:

  • Review Existing Architecture by conducting a thorough assessment of our current cloud architecture, with a particular focus on GovCloud.

  • Oversee and manage the preparation of all necessary FedRAMP documentation, including the System Security Plan (SSP), Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M), and other compliance artifacts.

  • Provide architectural guidance on cloud security, network security, identity management, encryption, and data protection in line with NIST 800-53 and other relevant standards.
Collaborate with development and operations teams to ensure secure DevOps practices.
Develop and implement secure architecture frameworks and solutions that adhere to FedRAMP Moderate or High Impact Level baseline

  • Ensure Compliance and Security: This role will be pivotal in ensuring that our GovCloud environment meets all necessary federal compliance standards and is fortified against potential security threats. You will guide the implementation of these security measures.

  • Create Parity Across Cloud Environments: you will work to align our GovCloud environment with our other cloud platforms, ensuring a unified and consistent architecture across the entire organization. This will include standardizing processes, tools, and practices across all environments.

  • Mature GovCloud Environments: you will develop and implement a roadmap for the maturity of our GovCloud environments, ensuring they evolve in line with the company’s overall strategic objectives and regulatory requirements.

What You'll Need:

  • 12–14+ years of progressive experience in enterprise IT and architecture; Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Deep expertise in enterprise infrastructure architectures spanning on-premises, virtualized, and cloud environments.

  • Proven ability to lead enterprise-scale cloud architecture strategy across major providers (AWS, Azure, GCP), including design, integration with existing platforms, governance, and lifecycle management.

  • Demonstrated leadership in evaluating existing, new, and emerging infrastructure technologies and defining adoption recommendations and reference architectures.

  • Experience owning enterprise automation and infrastructure-as-code strategies to provision, patch, upgrade, and deploy infrastructure at scale.

  • Strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (IT, legal, security, and business units) to ensure alignment with federal requirements and security best practices.

  • Outstanding presentation skills for communicating architectures and roadmaps to senior leadership

  • Leadership experience overseeing large-scale infrastructure initiatives, including modernization, migration, and platform transformation efforts.

  • Broad, modern enterprise technology expertise with the ability to influence long-term architectural direction across the organization.

Bonus Points:

  • Senior-level experience in large-scale enterprise infrastructure projects.
    Industry experience in cyber security.
Knowledge of network switching, backup, and restoral systems.
Knowledge of FedRamp, DOD IL 4 and 5

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
